The “ BAPTISM” of the Holy Spirit is NOT THE SAME THING as the “spiritual gifts” that is spoken of in 1 Cor. 12-14. Holy Spirit baptism was a miraculous immersion of the Spirit and it only happened twice in the New Testament: once on the Jews in Acts 2 and once on the gentiles in Acts 10. The speaking in tongues was a sign to the Jews in Acts 2 and the gentiles in Acts 10 that this was from God and that He approved. No where in the New Testament does it ever say that Holy Spirit baptism SAVED anyone. You are assuming that but your assumption is wrong. The people in Acts 2 were not saved by Holy Spirit baptism; they had their sins removed by being baptized in water and…THEN…they received the Holy Spirit as a gift. From God. They were saved by water baptism just like Peter said. ( 1 Peter 3:21). There is nothing in Acts 10 that even suggests that Cornelius was saved by Holy Spirit baptism. You are ASSUMING again. In fact, the fact that Peter COMMANDED them to be water baptized after receiving the Spirit proves that they were NOT saved by Holy Spirit baptism—else why would they need to do anything else. Peter did not give them the CHOICE of being baptized—he COMMANDED them to be water baptized. Do you think Peter changed his mind about baptism and now believes it is NOT for the remission of sins? No. Peter has not changed his mind about the purpose of baptism, nor is he preaching something different here than what he preached in Acts 2. NOTHING in Acts 10 says, or suggests that Cornelius was saved by Holy Spirit baptism. That is just an assumption.

As for the spiritual gifts for the church that is talked about in 1 Cor. Those gifts were given to people by the laying on of the apostles hands—they were not imparted to anyone by a miraculous “BAPTISM” of the Spirit. Acts 8: the Samaritans received gifts of the Spirit when Peter and John came from Jerusalem and laid their hands on them. Acts 7, they chose seven men and the apostles laid their hands on them giving them gifts of the Holy Spirit. There is absolutely NO EVIDENCE that everyone who had a gift of the Spirit received it by MIRACULOUS BAPTISM. The scriptures show they received them from the hands of the apostles. Just saying that Cornelius was saved because he was baptized with miraculous Holy Spirit baptism does not make it true nor have you proved it. That baptism, by itself was never said to have saved anyone. Where is the scripture that says so? Just saying it is, does not make it so.

After the death of Jesus, people were saved by believing and being baptized, just as Jesus taught in Mark 16:16. Every example of conversion in the book of Acts, tells how they believed and were baptized. Acts 2, they believed Peter’s sermon and 3000 were baptized for the remission of sins; Acts 8:12, men and women believed and were baptized; Verse 13, Simon believed and was baptized; verses 37-38, the Eunuch believed and was baptized; Acts 9, Saul of Tarsus believed ( on the road to Damascus) but did not have the forgiveness of his sins until he was baptized, according to the Holy Spirit(22:16). Acts 10, Cornelius and his household believed the things taught by Peter and were COMMANDED to be baptized ( for the remission of sins, Acts 2:38) after having miraculous Holy Spirit baptism; Acts 16, the Jailer was not saved in verse 31, because he did not even know who to believe in. He did not believe until Paul spoke the word of the Lord to him in verse 32, and he was baptized IMMEDIATELY, in the wee hours of the night in verse 33. He rejoiced in verse 34 having believed in God. Believing and being baptized just like Jesus said in Mark 16:16 is called “believing in the Lord,” by the Holy Spirit. Acts 18:8, many Corinthians “believed and were baptized.” Example, after example of how People were converted and saved from their past sins and in every case they “believed and were baptized”. Exactly as Jesus said to do in Mark 16:16. You want to know exactly what to do to be saved? you wany to be absolutely sure of your salvation? You want proof from the New Testament? Just obey what Jesus said to do in Mark 16:16 and follow the example of everyone in Acts. If God saved them that way, God will save us that way, too.

This is the plan of salvation as the Holy Spirit teaches it in the Bible. If you try to be saved some other way, saying a “sinner’s prayer”, or by just believing only, or by Miraculous Holy Spirit baptism, or by some religious experience or just because you “FEEL” saved, be aware of what Jesus told those very religious people in Matthew 7–“ Depart from me I never knew you.. you who work LAWLESSNESS ( without God’s law or without His authority.”

That is simply a desperate attempt to "get around" Acts 10:43-47 in order to uphold your biased church doctrine. Now receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38; Acts 10:45, 47) is distinct from receiving the spiritual gift of tongues (1 Corinthians 12:10, 30) yet every believer receives the gift of the Holy Spirit the moment they are saved, meaning "Spirit baptism" is the normal, universal entry into the body of Christ rather than an exclusive, double event only. 1 Corinthians 12:13 - For by one Spirit are we ALL baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been ALL made to drink into one Spirit. This was promised prior to Jesus being glorified. (Matthew 3:11; John 7:38-39; Acts 1:8)

It's not that we are saved by Holy Spirit baptism in of itself apart from faith. We are saved through belief/faith (implied in repentance/two sides to the same coin - Mark 1:15; Luke 24:47; Acts 3:19; 5:31; 11:17,18; 20:21) and then we receive the Holy Spirit as a gift from God and are placed in the body of Christ and sealed. Ephesians 1:13 - In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. Also see (2 Corinthians 1:22; 5:5; Ephesians 4:30)

You are assuming that, but you are wrong. In Acts 2:38, "for the remission of sins" does not refer back to both clauses, "you all repent" and "each one of you be baptized," but refers only to the first. Peter is saying "repent unto the remission of your sins," the same as in Acts 3:19. The clause "each one of you be baptized" is parenthetical. This is exactly what Acts 3:19 teaches except that Peter omits the parenthesis. Acts 2:38 must be read alongside verses like (Luke 24:47; Acts 3:19; 5:31; 10:43-47; 11:17,18; 13:38-39; 15:7-9; 16:31; 26:18) where forgiveness is explicitly tied to repentance/belief/faith and not water baptism. One must look beyond a pet verse and consider the totality of scripture before reaching one's conclusion on doctrine. *Hermeneutics.

Everything suggests that Cornelius was saved BEFORE receiving water baptism. ONLY believers receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and whoever believes in Him receives remission of sins. (Acts 10:43-45) Receiving the spiritual gift of tongues is ONLY for the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12) and speaking in tongues took place BEFORE water baptism. The evidence is overwhelming (but you refuse to see it for the sake of your biased church doctrine) that these Gentles believed, received the gift of the Holy Spirit, spoke in tongues, magnified God, and were saved and a part of the body of Christ BEFORE they were water baptized. Certain Jews may have wanted to forbid them from being baptized because of their unacceptance of the Gentiles, but Peter clearly states that SURELY NO ONE CAN REFUSE. These Gentiles were clearly SAVED BEFORE WATER BAPTISM, and the Holy Spirit was proof of this.

Romans 8:9 - But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. If one has received the Holy Spirit they "belong" to Christ. To belong to Christ does not describe the condition of a lost unbeliever but a saved believer - such was the case of these Gentiles BEFORE they were water baptized.

1 John 4:13 - By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. Because they received the Holy Spirit, these Gentiles abided in God and God abided in them. To abide in God and to have God abide in you does not describe the condition of a lost unbeliever but a saved believer - such was the case of these Gentiles BEFORE they were water baptized.

It wasn't that they needed to do something else after believing in order to be saved, but because they believed and were saved, they were then commanded to receive water baptism and baptism was not considered an "optional extra" for these Gentiles; it was a command (Acts 10:48) that they were expected to obey. However, it was not obedience to this command that saved them, but their believing in Christ for salvation. (Acts 10:43)

Do you think Peter would say something in Acts 2 and later contradict himself in Acts 10? Did Peter forget to mention baptism in Acts 3:19; Acts 5:31; 10:43? This is your problem. You base your doctrine on a pet verse and do not consider the totality of scripture and again, EVERYTHING suggests that Cornelius was saved when he believed, received the gift of the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues BEFORE receiving water baptism but you simply refuse to acknowledge the truth for the sake of your pet doctrine.

Not everyone speaks in tongues, yet everyone who speaks in tongues is already a part of the body of Christ. (1 Corinthians 12) Not everyone has hands laid on them before receiving the Holy Spirit, (exception, not the rule and there was a reason for it) yet every saved believer receives the gift of the Holy Spirit. (John 7:37-39; 1 Corinthians 12:13)

What about before the death of Jesus? John the Baptist came preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. (Mark 1:4; Luke 3:3) In Matthew 3:11, we read - As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance.. Now was this baptism for (in order to obtain repentance) or was it for (in regard to/on the basis of) repentance? Obviously, the latter. Water baptism is in regard to/on the basis of the remission of sins received upon repentance, before and after the death of Jesus. In Mark 16:16, Jesus said he who believes and is baptized will be saved, yet He clarified the first clause with, "but he who does not believe will be condemned." Jesus did not say he who is not baptized will be condemned, so your argument is inconclusive. John 3:18 - He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who (is not water baptized? - NO) does not believe is condemned already, because he has not (been water baptized? - NO) because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Now just because water baptism follows conversion does not mean it is absolutely necessary for salvation. If water baptism was absolutely required for salvation, then God would not make so many statements in which He promises eternal life/salvation to those who simply BELIEVE/PLACE FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST FOR SALVATION (Luke 8:12; John 1:12; 3:15,16,18,36; 5:24; 6:29,40,47; 11:25,26; Acts 10:43; 11:17; 13:39; 15:7-9; 16:31; 26:18; Romans 1:16; 3:22-28; 4:5-6; 5:1; 10:4; 1 Corinthians 1:21; 15:1-4; Galatians 2:16; 3:6-9, 26; Ephesians 1:13; 2:8,9; Philippians 3:9; 2 Timothy 3:15; 1 John 5:13 etc..).

The plan of salvation is NOT "water baptized or condemned." That is a "different" gospel. (Galatians 1:6-9) The plan of salvation is saved by grace through faith, not works. (Ephesians 2:8,9) To believe anything else is to miss salvation. The gospel is the "good news" of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVES.. (Romans 1:16) To BELIEVE the gospel is to trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation. Either we are trusting 100% in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for salvation or else we are 100% lost. In context, Jesus was addressing false prophets in Matthew 7:15-23. Hence, depart from me I never knew you.. you who work lawlessness. People today who are mixed up in false religions and cults today and embrace a false gospel will hear those same words from Jesus. All who fail to do the will of the Father unto salvation (Matthew 7:21; John 6:40) will hear those words! ⚠️

1 Corinthians 1:18 - For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that BELIEVE.

How can you be sure?

john 1: 12. but as many as have received him, to them he gave the right to become children, even to them who believe

However, if your trying to earn it by how good you are or by works.. then you can not know.. because you can never know if your good enough.

Trust Jesus not self. and you will know and understand.

the audacious error of "faith alone"!

we can exchange an eternal weight of glory for a split second / microscopic act of "faith alone"!

and sin can have no effect on our eternal salvation, we can rob, steal, muder and kill, live unrepentant in sin and drunken debauchery with prostituts and still go winging off to heaven when we die!

no wonder scripture is filled with warning!

No one is saved by mere belief. we are saved by Grace, but it must be recieved in faith..

Not everyone whoc laims they have faith actually have faith (see james 2)

Repentance is unto the remission of sins. (Luke 24:47; Acts 3:19; Acts 5:31) Water baptism is done in regard to/on the basis of the remission of sins that are received upon repentance and belief/faith are implied or assumed. (Matthew 21:32; Mark 1:15; Acts 11:17,18; Acts 20:21) *Hermeneutics.

I feel so bad for all the people who did not or could not be immersed in water that are lost forever. ebven though they had living faith in God

You gave 23 scriptures that day we must believe and I believe every one of them is true. The debate here is NOT about whether or not we should believe in Jesus or have faith. The point of contention is about whether or not “believe” ALONE is what saves us ; and I don’t see the word “ALONE” or “ONLY” in a single one of those 23 scriptures that you gave. So what have you proven by these scriptures? NOTHING, except that we are to believe. That is all those scriptures say. Nothing more.

Those who believe in salvation by faith alone have NO PROBLEM ASSUMING that the word “alone” is in everyone of those scriptures—even though it s NOT THERE! BUT… you base your whole reason for rejecting baptism because it is not mentioned in those scriptures. How ironic and inconsistent is that!! You assume everything else. Now here is one of the differences between us: I accept baptism as necessary to salvation, even though the Holy Spirit does not mention it in every scripture on faith—BECAUSE…the Holy Spirit has taught that it IS NECESSARY TO SALVATION in other scriptures, like Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38,22:16, and even clearly and plainly says it outright in 1 Peter 3:21. I have evidence from scripture that it DOES SAVE US. I have scripture that SAYS SO.

You, on the other hand have nothing! No evidence of “faith alone” saving anywhere in scripture. “FAITH ALONE is NOT taught in those 23 scriptures you gave. It is not taught any where else in the law of Christ. In fact, it is specifically taught that it DOES NOT SAVE in JaMES 2:24.

SO SUMMED UP, there are lots of scriptures that teach us we must have faith, we must believe, and there are also scriptures that teach that baptism forgives sins, and is necessary to salvation.
What is my conclusion? I believe what Jesus said in Mark 16:16–that it takes BOTH—faith and baptism to be saved. That’s what Jesus taught. Those 23 scriptures on faith do not make 1 Peter 3:21 wrong. They do not contradict Acts 2:38 or 22:16. 23 scriptures do not CANCEL OUT not even ONE other scripture that teaches baptism saves us. Those 23 scriptures on faith teach faith BUT NOT FAITH ALONE! It is not there nor IS it anywhere else in scripture except in James 2:24 and there it specifically says FAITH ALONE DOES NOT SAVE!

YOU, on the other hand, ASSUME those 23 scriptures have the word “alone” in them when it clearly does not, and you base your entire doctrine on an ASSUMPTION when there is absolutely NO EVIDENCE anywhere else in scripture of salvation by FAITH ONLY. In fact, other scriptures, not only do not support your doctrine, it says outright if you believe this you will not be saved! James 2:24.

2) yet, you ASSUME every scripture on faith means faith “alone” when the word is not found in even 1 scripture on faith.
Wouldn’t you think that if faith ALONE saves us, the Holy Spirit would have said it SOMEWHERE, SOMETIME?? At least ONCE?? He said “baptism saves us.” 1 Peter 3:21. Quote all of the verses on “faith” that you want; NONE of them destroys not proves that baptism is not necessary to be saved—just like Jesus said in MARK 16:16.

Facts! Not ASSUMPTIONS! Scripture, not ASSUMPTIONS.
Jesus told the story of 2 men who were building houses. ONE built his house on the ROCK, which was Christ and His word. He was called “wise.” The other man built his house on “ SAND”. He was called “foolish.”
You are building your “house” on sinking sand, (assumptions), my friend. Your doctrine has no REAL foundation.

Yes, just like those “believers” who had living faith in God in Matt. 7, but who Jesus rejected because they were outside of His law ( verse 23).
And just like the devils who believe in the living God so much that they tremble. James 2.
And just like the Jewish leaders who had ALWAYS HAD A LIVING FAITH IN God the Father and also believed in Jesus His Son but were lost forever because they. woujd not confess Him. Yes, many people will be lost for various reasons,; not being baptized is just one of them. But this also proves that faith alone will not save; regardless of their believing in God.

I feel badly for them, too.

Water baptism is unto the remission of sins. (Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16; 1st 3:21)

Water baptism is done so that we may have the remissions of sins that is received after belief/faith and repentance is expressed. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Galatians 3:27)

Your right, Its not just belief..

What is true faith?

Paul shows abraham as an true example of what living faith looks like


1. contrary to hope. in hope do we believe?
2. do we not waver at the promise to undbelief, but are we strengthened in faith giving God the glory?
3. are we fully convinced that what God promised, he can fulfill?

Abraham was.

Rom 4
18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed

20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

and because of it. God imputed, or accounted to him, to him as righteousness.
And it was not written for his benefit but for ours also.. as we are saved by this same confidence. or trust, or assurance in christ.

Do you believe we must be circumcized also? Thats a command of God that represents cleansing.

Why do you replace the work of God with the work of man?

I feel sorry for you that you just condemned a bunch of people to hell because they could not get baptized.. (medically or there was no water so they could get baptized before they died)
