Meryl Streep makes interesting choice but I did hear her say the only interesting parts for a woman of her age left are old crones and witches.

Not surprised by this at all. I feel like I've been watching things I love get torn apart for years now. But this is a different level. I won't be angry with anyone who loves this, they have the right to like whatever they want. All I'm saying is for myself it's just another "in-name-only" piece of content I won't be paying attention to once it drops.

Just disappointing as a Lewis fan that they couldn't honor the man or his beliefs. :cautious:

If C.S Lewis is in the public domain - I think it's 50 years after the author has died when the copyright expires...his work can be adapted in anyway someone wants.

I think it's hard for today's female directors to take a work that old and a different era to see themselves a part of it as in those times, there was a lot of misogyny.
Eg. Reading George Orwell, who wrote in the 1930s-40s including the brilliant Animal Farm, had very disturbing views about women. If you read some of his other work, he either totally ignored women or had disturbing fantasies about women.

Even when I read 1984 when I was 14 in the 1990s, I was put off by the character of Julia and how she was portrayed in that book, and Winston's frame of mind about her. But I suppose it was realistic for those times.

If he had done what he was wanting to do with women in this day and age, he would be in jail.
And this wasn't only for that character, elsewhere in Orwell's work the same thing happens.

Meryl Streep is always excellent and consistent with any character she plays.

I guess for those who haven't read the books, as many younger people these days would not have grown up with them, they might not know anything else.

Gerwigs adaptation of Little Women had a little conceit in it that Jo became the author of Little Women herself. We know Louisa May Alcott based Jo on her own self.

But if you read any biography of Louisa May Alcott, and delve into her personal life, her father comes off as an eccentric/hippie type who was always on the verge of bankruptcy and jeopardising the girls future. The sisters really needed to carve out their own independence, because Louisa learned that women need to do all the work when men are flaky and don't provide. She learned this from her father.

Gerwig also directed the Barbie movie, and a gem called Lady Bird which was a coming of age movie and about mother-daughter relationships.

Barbie movie got a heap of flack for being 'woke' but it wasn't even. It just had the guts to champion women.

I wasn't a fan of the Narnia books after the first one.
I thought the Aslan/Christ motif was pretty heavy handed. And we all know Jesus is the lamb of God, not the lion. People ALWAYS get them mixed up.

Even though the first movie was filmed on location in New Zealand, NZers did not flock to Narnia like they did with Middle Earth in LOTR.

I guess the Chronicles of Narnia was sort of a precursor to the Harry Potter books/movies, with platform 7/8 quarters filling in for the magical wardrobe bit. Both have witches and magic.

Anyhow. What do people here think of....God's Not Dead? Will there be a God's Not Dead...6?
