You were relying on your ability to be good, not God ability to save you through grace. That never works.

If we follow The Lord the best we can with His help, perfection will be imputed/credited to us through grace the same as everyone who has ever had faith in Him. There is no other way.

The meaning of the word Holy in Greek is, separated and dedicated, as some have suggested. The way we are speaking of means separated from the world and dedicated to God. Only He can do this with our cooperation.

I believe this may be at least one of the scriptures that Peter was referring to when he said Paul said some things that are hard to understand.
