Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

Thank you for sharing your personal testimony. As I said in the original message, Jesus uses love to define scripture whereas humans use scripture to define love.

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

You're conflating "living in sin" with being proud of our sin. We all sin (Romans 3:23) and even what we consider good deeds are often tainted by selfish motives or pride (Isaiah 64:4). Left by ourselves, it is impossible to please God or be completely free from sin (Romans 3:10, Ecclesiastes...

    Changing the word of God

The only thing I take on faith is that Jesus is Lord. I do not take on faith that other humans somehow correctly canonised scripture. We can say things like the Holy Spirit was with them, or whatever, but this is wishful thinking.

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

Agreed. It's amazing how some people on here refer to themselves, of us as a group, as "righteous". We are not righteous. We all live in sin, which is why we need Jesus.

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

I understand all that, but there seems to be a lot of fluff and not much substance. I'm asking you for practical examples of "speaking the truth in love" - see post #113.

    Changing the word of God

If we are not supposed to add to or take away from the word of God, how come some books did not make it into the Bible?

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

Again, sounds good. Can you please give a practical example of "speaking the truth in love"?

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

Yes but that doesn't answer my question (quote below). All you've done is to describe how repentance is related to changing.

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

Sounds good, but what would you say is the practical most effective way to change people's behaviour?

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

That's an interesting question. What do you think is the most effective way of encouraging people to change their behaviour?

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

And how would you go about this?

    Hello :)

Sorry that you've gone through depression too. It's horrible isn't it, thinking that there is no point to living. I'm through it now, thankfully, but I've been left with mild hypoxic brain injury after trying to end my life. As I said, I'm over it now :) If you ever feel like a private chat, I'm...

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

"It is not the churchs position to offer unconditional love. It is the Lords position to offer that" And herein lies the problem with the modern "church": it does not seek to offer what God Himself offers. We are taught to love our enemies. Do you know who we are taught not to love...?

    Hello :)

I have just found this subsection and thought I might introduce myself :) I am from the UK and I became a Christian in 2018. My faith is something I struggle with because I have had several experiences that have really put me off or tested me: from uncovering fraud at a Church I used to attend...

    Do Jews have salvation?

Good question and I would like to know your answer.

    Hello from sunny Barbados

Oh the Caribbean. Would love to move there one day. Welcome, from another new person.

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

I have little doubt that some of you would not recognise Jesus if He were to return today. If He were to reveal Himself to you, some of you would seek to test Him, and question Him in such a way as to entrap Him in His words. Some of you would find His message so repulsive that you would reject...

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

Ok guys and gals, I'm now off to bed. I wish you all well and thank you for the debate. My intention here has been no more than to do what Jesus did when he told people to not throw stones at the prostitute. I know that a handful of you have intended to accuse me of unscriptural deeds however...

Unconditional love and the church's approach to homosexuality

Was Jesus sticking up for sin when he told people not to throw stones at the prostitute? I am doing the same, no more, no less. I'm sorry if this is unacceptable to you.
