    John 3:16 Rom 8:8 Rom 10:17

There is nothing in my life that merits God's love and mercy! I am just thankful that He has shown me His mercy through Christ His son. . .

    hello everyone

I beg your pardon! Since you mentioned oldies right after my post, I can only assume that you are talking about me!

    hello everyone

Joey, Welcome to CC! I don't have any vinyl records from the 50s-60s, but I'm curious as to how you came to enjoy this era, or are you just a collector. I lived it, but you are not that old. Anyway, thank you for your service to this country and please keep your head down. Even though we are...

    John 3:16 Rom 8:8 Rom 10:17

Thank you! Does this mean that election/appointment is a promise of things which will surely come to pass? Is it just the first step in the process of being brought to salvation? Is it in fact to be viewed as God's choosing men to salvation?

    John 3:16 Rom 8:8 Rom 10:17

This scripture implies that we are saved by a gift of God. Does that mean that the gift is given prior to being saved? Is this gift available to all? If so, why do not all come to faith? Not arguing, just asking what makes us differ?

    John 3:16 Rom 8:8 Rom 10:17

Thank you, this is a very well thought-out response, and I agree with what you say. The part that seems difficult to understand is Rom 8:8 which seems to imply that we are unable to please God. If we are unable, then does this not call for a change? If so, then what is it that makes us able?

    John 3:16 Rom 8:8 Rom 10:17

We are told that faith comes by hearing [Rom 10:17]. We are also told that whoever believes will have eternal life [John 3:16]. On the other hand we are also told that those in the flesh cannot please God [Rom 8:8] Is faith/trust/belief achievable by fallen man? Must they come prior to...

    Essential Christian Doctrines

You are the one who is confused. You seem to think that man's abilities did not change with the fall, that he did not spiritually die. In other words, you do not believe that Gen 6:5 is true. That's OK, go walk the isle while saying the sinners prayer if you think that is all it takes. As...

    Essential Christian Doctrines

The reformed do not believe that God created evil/sin. However, He did allow for it. He did so by saying DO NOT EAT FROM THIS TREE. That was a single command issued to Adam and Eve knowing that they would certainly disobey. They had the ability to choose to obey or not. Their choice to...

    Essential Christian Doctrines

Taken from G I Williamson – WCF study guide Liberty vs Ability It is all too common to bring accusations against the Reformed Faith that it denies “free will”. Many reject the Reformed Faith out of hand because they assume that divine sovereignty [of which predestination is but one aspect]...

    Is it just me or........

This may be the most important and difficult thing to overcome in the quest of becoming a Christian! And for me, it remains a struggle at times. I know that I sat in Church for well over a year, seeking the joy and assurance that was present in those around me. But, I had a very difficult time...

    Loss of salvation???

Luke 23:40-43 40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come...

    Loss of salvation???

If you are saved, that means that the Father has given you to Christ. If you have not been given to Christ, you were never saved! Then in John 6:39 we are told: “ And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day”...

THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ETERNAL LIFE ACCORDING TO JESUS

1 John 2:1 tells us that He is an advocate for those who have placed their trust in Christ. The law provides no such advocate!

THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ETERNAL LIFE ACCORDING TO JESUS

I once knew an elder with a OPC church. At that time, they did not yet have their own building so they held their service in an SDA church each Sunday because the building was not in use. I think is was nice of the SDA church to let them do so. However, they would not allow them to serve...

THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ETERNAL LIFE ACCORDING TO JESUS

Requirements for Eternal Life Those here who see their need for the work of Christ, are exactly the type of people that Christ came to save. They are the humble ones, who know that they fail, repent when the do, and have placed their trust in the finished work of Christ. Then there are those...

THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ETERNAL LIFE ACCORDING TO JESUS

I agree! Christ came to save sinners, not those who believe that they are somehow righteous in themselves.
