What do you make of the fact that Hell is thrown into the Lake of Fire along with Death?

Let's say I'm a fan of exegesis, but not eisegesis. Revelation 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the LAKE OF FIRE. This is the second death. When a person dies the second death, it sure looks to me like annihilation. I'm more disposed to believe that life is a gift from God and that...

What do you make of the fact that Hell is thrown into the Lake of Fire along with Death?

When it says "Hell gave up those dead in it." strikes me as meaning that Hell isn't a place of "eternal" torment. It seems more like it's just where people go when they die then. The deeds they're judged about strike me as future deeds if you take Paul at his word "he who has died has been...

What do you make of the fact that Hell is thrown into the Lake of Fire along with Death?

I get that, it's just that since death is a state, not a location that would mean not that a "state" was literally thrown into the lake of fire, but it would mean that death will be eliminated. If that's true, then wouldn't that also be true of hell? That hell itself will be eliminated?

Revelation 20:14, KJV: "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death."

    Purim 2021

I take Paul at his word. The Jews and the Law …28A man is not a Jew because he is one outwardly, nor is circumcision only outward and physical. 29No, a man is a Jew because he is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s...

    Walking With Christ

The cultural fabric of Germany was very strongly influenced by Luther, who wrote a screed entitled "The Jews and their Lies" which the Nazi's would have been proud of. https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/martin-luther-quot-the-jews-and-their-lies-quot Moreover it's clear that Hitler was...

    Purim 2021

I'm not sure anyone reads the account about Purim and thinks what you're thinking. Also, Jesus' commands to "render unto Caesar" doesn't include allowing Caesar to kill you. Mordecai didn't bow down to Haman, but that was hardly an insurrection. The three hebrews also failed to bow down in the...

A complex question about free will and Calvinism

Every time I hear stuff about Calvinism, I have to go see what latest thing the Babylon Bee has posted. https://babylonbee.com/news/i-am-a-depraved-wretch-says-calvinist-smugly

    Not By Works

I'm amazed that there are so many posts on this subject. This usually means it's made some people uncomfortable, though I don't know why.

    Purim 2021

Haman was a descendant of the Agagites who were supposed to have been wiped out by God's command. Had this been obeyed, there would have been no Haman. No doubt his antisemitism came from that history, however he could have learned from the errors of his ancestors, but didn't. King David...

Matthew 5:39 Why would God command us to not resist evil?

I have to tell you this reminds me when I was with a friend years ago who was a Christian, but also an ex-marine boxing instructor and drill sergeant. We were doing some street preaching at a college and this guy came up and asked Mac, "If I slapped you upside your face, would you turn the other...

The Return of Yeshua in the Year 6,000 From Creation and How Many Years Are Left

I love bible math as much as the next person, and I'd love to crack the code, but I think I'd have a better chance hacking a bitcoin wallet than figuring out when the end will come.

Are Christians more accepting of charlatans then we should be?

My own problem in taking counsel is that I have a spirit that likes to battle. I get to thinking I'm right, I can defend my position verbally, and then I can go away thinking I'm right, when I'm just good at arguing my position. An old cowboy preacher I know told me once that no one wants the...

Are Christians more accepting of charlatans then we should be?

BTW even if you do have a paid preacher, he should be willing to take counsel. I'm thinking of people like Apollos. Acts 18:24-26 24 Now there came to Ephesus a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria. He was an eloquent man, well-versed in the scriptures. 25He had been instructed in the...

Are Christians more accepting of charlatans then we should be?

There's some dangers in the paid preacher thing. 1. You could be offloading your responsibility to develop and exercise your own Christian conscience. 2. If you're the preacher, you might not give counsel when it's due, because you're in fear for your job. 3. You could get to thinking more of...

Are Christians more accepting of charlatans then we should be?

When someone asks me about being called, or not hearing the calling, I quote "He who has ears, let him hear." - Mt. 13:9 "In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!"...

Are Christians more accepting of charlatans then we should be?

That's good. I just think every man should get enough Bible in him so he can preach. As long as it's clear and from the Bible, then it shouldn't require a seminary degree to get it right. The apostles were "unlettered" and "ordinary" and they did alright. It also makes him that much more...

Are Christians more accepting of charlatans then we should be?

Let's just say I'm not a big fan of paid preachers. To answer the OP question, I'd say that since "Faith believes all things", then perhaps if whatever is said appears to be positive and uplifting and you believe it and it turns out to be a lie, that's not on you, but them. It no more...

God's silence - about to give up

Faith, as the scriptures say, is not a possession of all people. (2nd Thessalonians 3: 2) We also know that faith follows the thing heard about Jesus.(Romans 1:17) We know that the nations know God from creation, whether they admit to his power and Godship or not.(Romans 1:20) Having said that...
