M
I wanted to share this and give thanks and praises to God for his mighty deeds.
The church I go to is bursting at the seams and has been for a while, so much so that we now have two services on Sunday mornings. The current main auditorium seats about 500 people, plus we have an overspill area which seats another 100 or so.
We have been looking for another building for around 10 years and finally a break through came when the City planners decided to pull down a large area of the city including our church, and rejuvenate the whole area. The planners offered to buy our land and sell us a piece of land which was once a large school, which is just a 10 minute walk away with it own grounds etc.
And so we then had the mammoth task of raising £20 million for the project.
But then the recession hit, everything was put on hold and we have been watching, waiting and planning ever since.
In the meantime, the City Council offered to let the church use a building adjacent to our church free of charge and also a 5 story building across the road free of charge! I suppose no one else wanted them as everyone knew these buildings would be pulled down and the Council figured it would be better for our church to use them rather than for them to fall down etc.
So over the last several years we have been able to use these buildings and now have a Sunday youth service where up to 300 teens and young people can have a sunday service tailored for their needs. We use the building across the road as a children's centre which runs all sorts of children's meeting and also a run a pre-school christian nursery 5 days a week. So while everything has been on hold, God has provided everything we need to continue to reach out to others.
Anyway due to the delay with the recession and for various other reasons, including that the land the planners wanted to sell us has now reduced in price, they have now agreed to build us a new church on this land FREE OF CHARGE, and they have also paid for a significant proportion of the planning, legal and survey fees etc etc. They even pulled down the old school building free of charge (leaving a modern large 7 storey block which we asked them to keep as we wanted to use it).
Isn't that just amazing!
The church in the meantime has managed to raise the majority of the £2 million needed to renovate this block and for other things it was felt would be needed. (That itself is a miracle in a recession) It is intended the remaining school block will be used to house the offices, children's work, counselling centre and for various other things.
The rest of the school land is going to be used to build a 1000 seater auditorium church, (with the provision to expand it to 1500 seats if this becomes necessary). Also there will be a smaller auditorium on site about 500 seats for the teen work and teen sunday services and which can also be used for weddings and other small meeting etc.
Amazing! We have gone from having to raise £20 million plus paying out massive fees for all manner of things, to God providing it all for us.
None of the planners, the developers or the officials are christians that I am aware of but God has moved them to do all of this for us.
The final legal contracts have all been signed off and the work has started on the new church.
Praise God.
