1 Cor. 8:6 and Jn. 17:3 is not negating Jesus as God, but simply stating how there is one God, and then stating the unique relationship that Jesus on earth had with the Father. When He was on earth, He revealed the only true God in the sense that He revealed the Father’s will and His attributes. Doing so also proved that He too was also the only true God, as Him and the Father are one. It could also be Him showing humility by submitting to the Father on earth.
