Marriage is a union or bonding in the sight of God, where life long commitments, between a man and a woman, are expressed in the form of vows. The location where this ceremony takes place, apart from selecting a location which makes it a memorable occassion, has nothing to do with the marital union.
Marriage is about the promises made to each other in the presence of witnesses, in the presence of God, and in the presence of your bride or groom to be. Each of these witnesses remember the vows that were uttered, and the bond is never to be broken, except under certain circumstances, (outlined in the scriptures).
Because I am, hopefully, about to marry a woman from another country, where I've visited several times, we will have to marry within 3 months after her arrival. This will not be enough time for us to plan a wedding suitable to our liking, so a ceremony will have to wait for a later time.
