K
From this pit so dark and damp
I cry out to you.
I hear you beckon to me,
the surface is out of my reach.
Clawing at the walls I start to climb.
Then slip and return to the bottom.
With fists of mud and a crying heart
deteriorating hope of deliverance.
Through my tears I see the surface
only light in all my darkness.
Failure and deception my only company
in this my oubliette.
To accept defeat and parish here
seems my inescapable peril.
Though you call I am despairing.
Trapped within the shadows.
A voice resounds in the hollow,
come hither and walk with me.
An upward glance reveals a hand
awaiting mine to take hold.
For a moment I can only stare
devoid of all hope for so long.
Could this be the rescue I've longed for
or yet another beguiled fabrication.
A choice must be made.
Again I begin to climb.
I cry out as I slip once again
and desperately reach out my hand.
Eyes closed for impact never arriving.
They open to find the blackness dispersed
and with a glance above
a hand holding mine.
Pulled to
the surface I thought I'd never see
Overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude
marveled at the expanse around me
A new beginning.
I cry out to you.
I hear you beckon to me,
the surface is out of my reach.
Clawing at the walls I start to climb.
