Why do some of you think we can receive the gift of the Holy Spirit before we are baptized? Isn't that contradicted by Acts 2:38? I guess with God, all things are possible. God is Sovereign. If He chooses to give the Spirit before baptism, He can do that. But Acts 2:38 seems to link baptism and the receiving of the Holy Spirit. Of course, baptism is for the repentant. We must repent of our sins before any blessing from God can come.

dear prophecyman:
There can be no contradiction between Acts and Matthew, so baptism "in Jesus name" is baptism "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). Unless you are saying that Matthew 28:19 is not Scripture.

The Holy Spirit is God. He is with each of us.

There is no protocol set down in scripture for an order of the baptisms. One is done in obedience to God and the other is a GIFT. He does not withhold His gifts and gives them when we ask for them because it is His will that we have AND USE them.
Matthew 7:11
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
Luke 11:13
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?
