I have been saved, as of last weekend, however I am struggling with sinful urges. I am not mentally stable due to an excess amount of testosterone which runs rampant through my mind( I have Mania, and am Bipolar). I am leaving for basic training in 7 days, and am excessively stressed out. Before my baptism, masturbation eased my mind and body greatly. Now however, I feel it is a sin, and have thus not done it. However, I have the urge to have sexual contact so that I can relax, and fear that if I do not I may commit a greater sin - having sex with my girlfriend. I need peoples opinions on this matter, and what I should do. I hate to say it but my prayers for calmness go unanswered. I would not resort to asking this if the effects were not great, as I am already very irritable, have troubles sleeping, and go in and out of depression. Exercise does little for me.

Bro, the bible says Resist the devil and he will flee, draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4: 7-8) the bible also says for the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has sent me free from the law of sin (Romans 8:2). You have already been set free from all sin, and according to 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 you have have been given the weapons to capture every thought to obey Christ, bring down all strong holds, imaginations, and every thing that tries to exalt itself above God. Whenever you are tempted to fall into sin, put it in the hands of God and rebuke the thoughts from your head. Continue to seek God's face, He will lead you on. God bless

What Shemaiah said pretty much sums it up I think

Try finding something else, if not exercise then music? Writing? Reading the bible? Whatever can take your mind of what is making you stressed.

I will be praying for you.

From the Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible regarding Galatians 2:20:

"One day the gospel made sense to you and you placed your faith in Jesus Christ to forgive you of all your sins. You felt thrilled with this new life and marveled that many of the ungodly things you once did had lost their attraction. Perhaps you even thought you had conquered every sinful impulse.

And then you stumbled...badly. A new temptation or a new set of trials brought to light some area of your life that thought you had whipped. You felt confused, ashamed, maybe even alarmed. Perhaps you wondered, How could this happen? I thought I was supposed to be free from sin!

The truth is, Jesus has set us free from sin--but it is a kind of freedom that sets us free from ourselves. When Paul says, 'I have been crucified with Christ,' he means that God had broken his selfish individuality and united his spirit with his Lord. He truly became one with Jesus, and therefore he had many of the same resources available to him that Jesus enjoyed on this earth.

If you accepted Christ as your Savior, then you are one with Him. His likeness and holiness are present within your life. The very power that enabled Jesus to resist all temptation dwells within you.

Paul writes, 'For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells' (Romans 7:18). Yet we are not stranded in this barren place, for Paul also says, 'the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me' (Galatians 2:20). Through faith we access God's power to overcome our sinful impulses. A little later in Galatians, the apostle explains it in slightly different terms: 'Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16).

Our responsibility is to say 'no' to sin and 'yes' to God as we trust Him to provide the all encompassing liberty that our souls crave." - Dr. Charles Stanley

While Mr. Stanley is a revered pastor, I'd like to point out that we've got to also believe that we have already been delievered (which we have, as shemaiah pointed out). I myself have struggled with masturbation, and still do to a point. I can say that it's a process, and things take time. Here's my advice to you - get to know God. Call Him your Lord. If God says to do something, say yes and end your thought process. The more you love God, the less you'll want to sin. Heck, there have been times where I go to do something, and I just can't; I look up and say 'God, I can't do that to you.' But even if you slip up, remember, God doesn't think any less of you. He loves you so much more than us humans can comprehend. Loving God will cause you to keep the commandments.

P.S.: You can't be tempted with what you don't think. I'm not going to get into this now, but this is where spiritual warfare takes off - in your mind.

Hey, Crusader. Have you talked to any of your parents about this? It may be a good place to start. Furthermore, you can ask God to show You His Grace here. There are and can be times when an addiction or habit has a person by the throat and the person can barely keep from giving in and then feeling condemned during or afterward. But God knows more than we do about ourselves. Ask Him to reveal His Grace to you. Ie. ask Him to help you overcome this but to bear with you patiently while you are still in it. God is bigger than sin and guilt, and He is patient when we are stuck in a rut and want to get out but can't. Now, if we don't want to get out but pretend to want to get out, it's not the same. But if we do want to get out but can't, He is patient. The hard part may be fighting off the guilt, but the guilt isn't from God but the enemy. I hope that helps. And talk to your parents if that's possible or if it's a good idea-- someone older who can keep this in confidence and be supportive.

Study God's word and spend time talking to Him. Focus your life on Him and you will find peace. I can say to you as someone who used to use masturbation for the same basic purpose, that God can free you of it. I still feel a temptation to go there from time to time, but God is always able to help me resist.

Bro what ur going thru is normal every young person out there is going thru the same thing or have already went thru it.its hard for the young generation because the devil knows God is gonna use us to save people so he uses our flesh against us.in Genesis it says that the devil will eat dust all his life and that dust is our flesh so he's trying to get our flesh all excited so we can sin and feel bad inside trust me the sin is only feeling good for that little bit of time and then after that ur gonna feel bad inside and then he will mes with ur head making u feel like Oh ur supposed to be serving God and u committ this sin u might as well leave him because he don't want u no more trust me the Bible says Jesus told the people the devil is the father of all lie
s what u gotta do is resist him and he will flee from u u have to bind him in Jesus name and tell him to get away but u have to say in Jesus name with faith that the name of Jesus will make him get away from u and u have to ask Jesus to bless u every day with his Holy Spirit and u will have power over ur flesh I promise u bro in Jesus name devil I bind u get away from my brother I hope this helped u bro God Bless

Are you seeing anyone to help you with your bipolar disorder? Like Doctors and/or therapists?

Being saved does change your life but it doesn't stop urges nor does it change your personality instantly. You need to work on your relationship with God and other things will start to matter less and have less of a hold over you.
