Why do modern versions use the Alexandrian texts but older versions used the Byzantine texts? Are the Alexandrian ones more accurate?

Usually it has to do with the date, or age, of the text. Because archaeologists in modern times have discovered older texts, these tend to be favored for use in translations. Since an older text is closer in time to the original manuscript, it is usually considered to be more accurate.

Yeah I was listening to someone, and he said the reason the oldest texts are Alexandrian is because they weren't as heavily used and worn out as the Byzantine texts. He said he didn't trust the Alexandrian texts because they were from a liberal school of philosophers and because there were so few copies.

Anyways I don't know if what he said was true of not. He was trying to promote the KJV only perspective so idk.

For the most part it doesn't make a difference, the Byzantine texts contain the "disputed passages" as their called and the Alexandrian texts don't for the most part. Apart from that the differences between the two are negligible, and regardless of their "disputed" status all Bible translations contain the "disputed" passages no matter what textual basis they have.
