All that is written in the book of Revelation is a vision that was given to John by an angel sent by Jesus Christ (Rev. 1:1) to reveal to us our Lord (his coming, his mission, and our destiny).
"Rev. 19:10 ---for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." So Revelation is a prophetic book. The images of the vision given to John were not real but parabolic representations of the real. So when it's given in Rev.13:16 that people are going to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads, it's not going to be a physical mark. It simply means that people will accept in their heads (their thoughts) all the practices and mores of its particular culture and will practice, forward, and defend them much as we do today.
We already have the mark and the number of the beast (Rev.13:18) because it is the number of man. The number 6 represents man. So 666 of Rev. 13:18 means 6 or man as our provider, and 6 or man as our protector, and 6 or man as our savior. So all those qualities and roles that we once attributed to God are now handed over to the state. Who do you call on when you have a problem. For most of us, it's not God. So now we see that 666 is alive and well in each of us.
You don't believe me? Let's ask the two witnesses of Rev. 11. First go to "Deut. 31:26 (Moses) Take this book of the law and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of The Lord your God (which holds the stone tables with the 10 commandments written by the finger of God), that it may be there for a witness against thee." How many of us even know what the ten commandments are anymore. So we needn't go to the book of the law or the Old Testament because who reads that. Next go to "Matt. 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom (of the Lord Jesus Christ) shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." The gospel is the New Testament. Do you read it? How many of your friends do? The two testaments of the Bible are the two witnesses prophetically lying dead in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom (which represents all kinds of evil perversions) and Egypt (which represents all things worldly) where also our Lord was crucified (Rev. 11:8). Our Lord is spiritually saying that he was killed in a perversion filled, worldly, carnal or 666 system like ours. If Jesus came and taught in our streets today, he would be widely ridiculed.
When he returns, he won't come to teach. "Matt. 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity,". Will there be anyone left? "Amos 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord (his return)! to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness (great upheaval), and not light." So all those who hope for his immediate return, it may be well for them; but for most or us, not so good.
Remember in "Matt. 24:14 ---that the gospel shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations". In "Rev. 11:9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and a half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves." The three and a half days are 1260 days or the times of the Gentiles. The sacred calendar of the Jews has 360 days or 12 times 30= 360. 360 times 3 = 1080 plus half a day (year) or 180 = 1260.
"Rev.11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days (1260), clothed in sackcloth (symbolic of mourning or penitence)." Our Lord Jesus has his church and mission field at work all the time but little is heard about it. Miracles and wonders are happening world-wide but the media is silent and no wonder because the Devil controls all of it (Luke 4:5-6).
"Luke 21:24---and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.", "Rev. 11:2---for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months." A month of the Jewish sacred calendar is 30 days (from new moon to new moon). So 42 times 30 = 1260 or the times of the Gentiles.
Our two witnesses are, in fact, dead in our streets (Rev.11:8). How many people do you know that you can talk to openly about your faith. Our faith has been minimized near to the point of non-existence in the public square and the world (666) has filled the void.
The times of the Gentiles are over since the establishment of the state of Israel (1948). So what's holding back the return of our Lord? Rev. 8:1-5 represents the last half of the eleventh hour before our Lord returns. It's the prayers of God's faithful servants that are keeping us from facing our final judgment. I'm sure the time will come when they'll feel that there's not much left that's worth praying for and then we're toast.
I don't believe that the number 1260 has anything to do with a period of time. To me, it's more what the numbers mean.
12 means governmental perfection. This is what we'll have after Christ's return- the twelfth hour
6 means man
0 or 10 means ordinal perfection
So 1260 could mean governmental perfection or the reign of our Lord Jesus on earth for man at a time determined by God (ordinal perfection)
To me 1260 doesn't represent the period of time when events happen but is a simple code for God's design or plan.
