Listening is easy right?! God gave me ears how can I not listen?
Well, there is a foundation we need to place in Christ to be an affective Listener for God's work. We must not have pre-conceptions of answers, but we need to hear and understand what other's are saying.
Calmly.
Second, we have to hear and understand what people are NOT saying. Good listener's.... "Give..." food at the proper time. Matt 24:45.
We sometimes use our Judgements and/or highlights of God's truths we just recently went thru personally to become the answer to a persons problems regardless of if that answer is the one he, or she needs.
We take out our snake oil#1, or snake oil#2 and custom fit it relentlessly.
God needs to equip His workers in His word and His calm listening Spirit. To diagnose and deliver the right answers. And let me also interject that if we don't have the answer....Just say so!
When Listening--Do not be subjective. [ Basing conclusions on Emotions or pre concluded prejudices]...And don't let your mind wander. Also, we must learn to enter into the feelings of others.
Sympathy is good. Empathy is Christ-like.
A servant must be empty within...A clean slate...If we cling to our own pleasures and griefs, we will be too full to take care of others.
The Lord Himself said, "If anyone comes to me and does not Hate his own Father and Mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters.....He cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26.
This is because when we lose these things, our love is exhausted on them. This means we have to give all of our Love to God, in order to enter into others feelings. We have to make our own feelings available. There is only so much room in that head, and Heart of ours...smile.
We must know the Cross! If you do not know the cross you will be subjective, thoughts will wander unceasingly. You will live constantly in your own feelings.
But if we can listen to others, know their condition, and get into their thoughts and feelings, we will have a way to help them....
God, help us all to enter into our partnership with others with our feet seated firmly in things already accomplished in you. Help us come to those in need as a blank page, soas to allow ourselves the room to love them above ourselves, for this is your example, and in it is your power and victory for others thru our obedience of service for your Glory sake and purposes in loving that person..unveil our eyes Lord and have us see thru your eye-sight.....Amen!
