I haven't read Love Wins by Rob Bell but I've gathered that most of the people that disagree with the books conclusion do so based on the scriptures that damn people to an eternal hell. I disagree with both. Hell is eternal ONLY in the sense that time is a product of the physical plain and where the soul goes after death is not physical. Universalism doesn't seem to allow for the free will desire to NOT be with God. I don't understand why someone would not want life but I have to accept that free will choice allows for that. Conversely though I do not accept that God is keeping a soul alive in hell and in torment. The scripture on this is clear that God can kill both body and soul and it is also clear that hell and death will be cast into the lake of fire (the second death).
