1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
3 Give us this day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil”

Thank God that he blessed us so much as to give us this prayer. From the very mouth of God, we learn how to pray. And it is filled with meaning. First, God is our Father, Abba; indeed you are worthy of all Glory and Praise. May your kingdom come to reign over the whole universe. May the window of your Holy Church on earth shine forth the Glorious light of your heavenly Kingdom every day. How can it shine forth through his Church on earth? By us, his children, doing his will on earth as it is done by all the angels and saints in heaven. Lord, and not only to us this daily bread which you have so abundantly blessed us with, but to our enemies and especially the poor and hungry. Forgive us Lord, we have sinned grievously against you, nailed your perfection against the cross which bore the punishment of our sins. I don't deserve your forgiveness Lord, but in your abundant kindness and mercy, blot out my transgressions and remember them no more. So too must I show forgiveness to those who have wronged, abused, and spitefully used me; I must become the advocate of my enemies. Lord, as you forgive me, forgive also all those who have wronged me, I beg of you; both those with contrition and those without. Hold it not against them on the final day those sins which they have been committed against me. As we journey through a dark world, restrain the temptations that have reign over the earth. Keep us on the straight and narrow path. As you give me strength to resist temptations, according to your divine will, weaken the temptations. Lord, my God, save me from all evil, and not just me, but all in your Holy Church; for you have spoken it, and it is truth which you speak, the gates of Hell shall never prevail against it.

Lord, my savior and God Jesus Christ, my Father Abba, Most Holy Spirit; give us the strength to live by the words of this Holy prayer each and every day of our Lives. Amen.
