The term "Bible Thumping" is 1) intended as an insult and 2) a result of a gross misunderstanding of christianity.

I'm not sure what you don't get. The phrase came about as an insult. But it don't take offense to it.
I've been called a "Bible Basher" on numerous occasions. It's an insult, just like "Bible Thumper".
