Hero cop in Boston Marathon bombing in coma after being shot in face

A Boston police officer honored for his role in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing was fighting for his life Saturday, a night after he was shot in the face during a traffic stop that ended when other officers shot and killed his attacker, the city's authorities said.

Officer John Moynihan, 34, was struck just below his right eye and the bullet remained lodged below his right ear. He was listed in critical condition and was in a medically-induced coma, Commissioner William Evans said.
Officer Moynihan is a former U.S. Army Ranger who served in Iraq, and was given the National Association of Police Organizations TOP COPS award in 2013 as one of the first responders in the attempted apprehension of Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev after the bombing. Moynihan stayed with a fellow officer, though still under fire, who had suffered what could have been a fatal leg wound, and saved the officer's life.

He is said to be improving this morning following a six-hour surgery Sunday.

Now he's been shot by a thug with a long rap sheet, had not even pulled his gun, nor had other officers, when he was shot. He was essentially defenseless at the time. Officers who had responded as backup to Moynihan shot the suspect to dead, and idiots on Facebook and Twitter have compared the shooting -- erroneously, in both cases -- to Ferguson, perpetrating the "Hands up don't shoot" b/s.

These morons make me physically ill.
