I really need a sounding board right now. I don't know who else besides Jesus to talk to about this. We have had some serious trials in our household lately and I am at the end of my emotional rope. My husband has been struggling with his job for a while. He has been trying his hardest to dig up business and make ends meet for the family. God always provides but my husband feels like he is not doing what he needs to for his family. Because of this, for about the past year he has kind of checked out of the family. He stays gone most of the time doing who knows what (he says errands and there are occasional business meetings) then comes home and parks himself in front of whatever football game might be on. He is uninvolved in the kids stuff and wont communicate with anyone including me. But the biggest slam to me and my family came about three months ago. Our 16 year old daughter unexpectedly went home to be with Jesus. We are all still in shock and are trying to make sense of it. I know God uses all things when we give it to him. But why this and why now? As if things weren't already bad enough. The kids and I are coping slowly. We are beginning to go on with life. It still hurts. And I think of her every second of every day. My husband has slid further into his hole though. Now in addition to checking out, he is emotional all the time and blames himself for not being there and the slightest misunderstood word triggers a fight between us. I am on egg shells all the time. I am trying to stay positive about everything for the kids but I have gotten to the point that I can not handle the sadness anymore. I do not enjoy being with my husband and when we are together it is in silence except for his occasional cursing himself. I have suggested a grief counselor, but he does not want to. I know with time things will be better but I am so ready for time to move quickly. I want happiness in my family again. I want normalcy and joy in my marriage. I want to love my husband again and enjoy his presence. God Knows my heart and my situation and I know he has all things in his hands. But right now I need to hear (or read) words that will keep me in the game. I feel like I am about to break. Any encouragement is good at this point.

Then YOU go get grief counseling!!! You can discuss what you can do for your home and how you can set boundaries with your husband in a loving way.

Until I heard of your loss... my thought was, well, sell the TV so he doesn't have foot ball... but then again I thought about it... why not sell the TV anyway? I dunno... I've never been there, so I would check with a counselor first. At the same time, some of this sounds like it was happening before, which means it wasn't entirely grief motivated.

Maybe after working with a good grief counselor for a time, you will be ready to approach husband with a... "I don't want an argument, I just want to speak a few things clearly and you can choose how you deal with what I have to say..."...

May God lift you all up and far away from the horrible sorrows you've faced. May he renew your joy (though you'll never forget your daughter) may He help you remember HER and not the pain of losing her. God be with you!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that. I, myself am not married. But one thing is I know about the situation is that is painful. At times we feel like we can't do anything because how limited we are. But God has given us this powerful thing called love. Not just any love. Its unconditional love. I'm sure it hurts to have so many things to deal with. Financial stability, and the loss of a loved one. I'm an emt and I see people die everyday, its not easy. But the thing your family has that some family don't is God in it. I'm sure God has his reason for taking your daughter. But blessed be his name for the Lord our God gives and takes away. Different people have different ways to cope. It will take time, but God is with you all the way. The greatest command He has left us is to love one another. So for now love him until he too can see the power of God's love. The scripture says ask and it shall be given to you. So as you're praying for God to bring everything back to before. I too will keep you in my prayers. I don't know if it helps, but one song that popped into my head while reading this was "Our God" by Chris Tomlin. You can probably youtube it. But for some reason I thought of that song when I read this.

God Bless you and your family.

Yes, I know the song. We sang that song in praise and worship at my daughter's funeral. Your statement "So for now love him until he too can see the power of God's love" is something I needed to be reminded of. I am so wrapped up in feelings, I guess I forgot God commands us to love anyway. I appreciate the words of encouragement.

My heart hurts for your loss. I can't imagine your family's pain. You all need counseling. If your husband won't go, then take your children and go without him. Maybe, as part of your healing process, you and your children can learn how to help your husband. Or maybe he will see the difference in all of you and want the same for his life.

Keep crying out to God above all and get as close to Him as you possibly can. He IS the Healer. Prayerfully, J.

Yes, this is very good advice. I'll be praying for you Ragamuffin; I am so sorry about losing your daughter. Please try to get your husband to be involved in the healing. God bless you and yours.

Try to find a Pastor or church that will do grief counceling. My husbands father died 10 years ago and he still suffers with it and has not had counceling. And the one who really suffers is me. He is extra mean and gets drunk then crys all night about it. He is too stubborn to go. Get him help in my case it didnt go away. I just wish he had a closer relationship with the Lord

Ragmuffin; allow me to share a story from my own life. 7/8/07 my 12 yr old daughter was murdered. i turned against God in my anger. we were never a Christian family really to start with but my now ex-husband and i were both raised in the church family. in our intense grief we both reacted with anger. I was angry with God and with the person who killed my girl, my ex was angry with the whole world and himself because he was the one who gave her permission to go babysit for the man who murdered her that night. we tried to be strong for our sons, then 17 and 19 years old. i felt i had to be strong for everyone and thought that counseling was showing weakness and how could someone who had never suffered that intense loss understand and help me to cope, so i didn't go to counseling. i should have. maybe things would have turned out differently, who knows. instead of getting lost in the sports station my ex got lost in the bottle and became an active-alcoholic after not drinking for awhile previousely. my sons went on with their lives as close to normal as possible but they were different boys after their sisters death and are now emotionally distant from everyone, although you wouldn't notice it unless you knew them well before that. after almost a year of dealing with the constant anger and drinking, and being able to do nothing about it i ended up wallowing and feeling totaly alone in my own grief. i left my ex-husband after a final fight, he'd gone out drinking and driving, gotten arrested for it, and lost his job all in the same night because he still went to work after bailing himself out of jail, and thereby went against the 'morality clause' in his contract and was immediately fired for it. and then i left him that night. my boys opted to stay with their father, and we have a very fragile relationship now. my oldest son calls me by my first name now because he says he doesn't want me as his mother but will accept me as his friend. my youngest son and i get along really well when we do talk but he doesn't care for my new husband so we have limited contact. the man who killed my daughter is in prison for life now, so there is some closure in that. it's been three and a half years, two and a half years since i began my 'new life', but it is only these last few months that i have found some answers and some peace. i don't know why things happened the way that they did, except that if i hadn't been through what i did then i wouldn't be able to help anyone else. losing a child, especially a mother losing a daughter, is the most intense grief , beyond imagination. i can look back and see the mistakes i made. i should have gone to counseling, i should have let myself off the hook and not carried the weight that i had to be strong for everyone else, i should have allowed myself to feel the brunt of that pain and delt with it by turning to God instead of away from Him. i probably could have handled the marriage differently but there were problems long before we lost Shyanne, i just used that as my excuse to finally leave a destructive cheating marriage. and when all was said and done, i should have clung to my faith instead of crushing it , there are so many 'should have's', but that doesn't help. all we can do is take that pain and the questions and go to God in faith knowing that he understands our pain and that he really does have all the answers, we just need to open our hearts and really listen for those answers. most importantly we need to make sure that those children that we have left behind get counseling, in an environment where they are free to express how they feel regardless of what those feelings entail, and that they know that we love them just as much as we love the child we lost. sometimes we get so involved in how much we love the one in heaven that the ones left behind feel that they don't measure up, that we don't love them as much, and we need to make sure that they know how we love them and that we feel so blessed to have them, as individuals for who they are not because of what they represent of the one lost. and above all else... talk to God, you can tell him anything and he understands and won't hold it against you even if you call him every ugly angry thing in the book, and then listen. listen because he will speak to you, and he will comfort your soul and give you peace. i don't know if anything i said has helped, i hope so. learn from my mistakes and don't repeat them. and if you truly love your husband, then try to understand how his 'guilt' is makeing him put distance between all of you, maybe he fears that if he is too close to you then the pain of possibly losing again would be too much for him to handle and so he puts up walls to try to protect himself. only time with God will ease the pain. go to counseling, then come home and talk to him about what you're learning from it. but if you love him, then give him time, and pray for him constantly. don't repeat my mistakes , learn from them. now i am on the right track with God, i have peace, I know that this world wasn't good enough for Shyanne but Heaven is her home, and i have a new husband and a new life now. don't push aside your grief, and remember your baby girl and know that she still feels your love and she would want you to be at peace. anyway, sorry i took up so much space. let me know if i talk to much... and above all else i wish you peace.

Wow, Twicefallen, I read every word of your post and have to say I'm so sorry for what you went through! How painful! But, wow, you really learned from it and thank you so much for sharing your experience! I will be praying that your relationship with your sons will continue to improve. You are a real inspiration to the rest of us :)

I prayed for you and your family as I read through your post several times. I prayed that God will be a comforting and healing presence in your home and in your hearts and that he will wrap His arms of love and protection around you all, guiding you by his strenghth and with His light through this valley. I have not walked in your shoes but I have walked through a few valleys and have experienced that at the end of your rope/sadness that almost scares you feeling. If that is where you are and you just can't get out from under it, DO seek help. If finances are an issue to counseling, your pastor can usually recommend someone or suggest counsel within your church or even with himself. You are special, loved and valued by God. He wants you to live a happy and prosperous life. I know that He is holding you, wiping every tear and calling you by name. You are not alone. I will keep praying for you ,for your husband, and for your children. God keep you in His hands and bless you.

The prayer of a righteous man makes power available, dynamic in its working and produces great results. Jesus said whatever you shall ask the father in my name I-Jesus will do it for you. what have you ask the father today. have you spent time in prayer to God. remember what happened to the first church of God. James was beheaded, they stay calm, then comes the arrest of Peter. they had to wake up to pray to God and he did answered them. you have watched the devil stole your daughter. now is time for you to wake up in prayers rebuking satan in your household and enthroning the presence of God over everything you've got. let God prove himself in your house. God bless you.

I'm still thinking of you and lifting you up in prayer. Your situation has made an impression on me and I've prayed that you're ok and that God continues to keep you in His hands. Each day brings new blessings and trials. My prayer for you today is joy, strenght, and peace through them all.

Please try understanding "all things" working for the good of those who love God. TRULY good things may not be the marriage before all else, what horrors your daughter has been truly spared of in this evil world NOW in Heaven not here and being poor you can truly know Christ and empathize with the least of His Kingdom Those to be First in Heaven. You are being spared any affiliation with a world SET towards its fate of perishing and against His True Christ Who "it/they" crucified. It sounds to me that you are truly blessed that your heart that prideful thing is in a position in His hands to truly be loved by Him,know Him and His sufferings and give sincere thanks for that which He provides which cannot be seen and is not of the World. Thank You all so much for the prayer and the encouragement. Things are slowly beginning to make a turn in my family now. Someone who came to our daughter's funeral gave us a book called "Heaven is for Real" It is the story of a three year old boy who went to heaven and he is telling his story of what he experienced. I read the book and it ministered to me so much that I bought the audio book for my husband. We recently took a 10 hour trip to bring our older son to bible college. I put the CD in and played it. Once I started it my husband wanted to hear all of it. By the time we were there he had listened to the entire audio book. It was then I stated to see him change. He started asking questions and beginning to open up. He is becoming involved with our younger kids again and has been spending more time with the family. He is beginning to listen without criticism and a hardened heart. He still has his moments of cursing himself and pulling away but it is not constant now. I give God the glory. I know He still is working on our situation, But it is refreshing to see the fruit. Again, thank you all for the prayer. I am certain that your prayers are bringing healing to my family. My prayer is that God returns the blessing to you 100 times.
