Here is the spring where waters flow,
To quench our heat of sin;
Here is the tree where truth doth grow
To lead our lives therein;
Here is the judge that stints43 the strife
When men's devises fail:
Here is the bread that feeds the life
Which death cannot assail.
The tidings of salvation dear
Comes to our ears from hence;
The fortress of our faith is here;
The shield of our defence.
Then be not like the hog that hath
A pearl at his desire,
13
And takes more pleasure in the trough
And wallowing in the mire.
Read not this book in any case
But with a single eye:
Read not, but first desire GOD's grace,
To understand thereby.
Pray still in faith with this respect
To fructify therein;
That knowledge may bring this effect,
To mortify thy sin.
Then happy thou in all thy life,
Whatso to thee befalls;
Yea, doubly happy shalt thou be
When GOD by death thee calls.

Here is the spring where waters flow,

To quench our heat of sin; (Here’s Jesus, the Spring of Living Water Who takes away our sins)

Here is the tree where truth doth grow

To lead our lives therein; (Here’s the Cross of Jesus, our example for living)

Here is the judge that stints the strife

When men's devises fail: (Here’s God our judge Who gives peace when our efforts fail)

Here is the bread that feeds the life

Which death cannot assail. (Here’s the Bread of Life, which not even death can hinder)

The tidings of salvation dear

Comes to our ears from hence; (The Holy Spirit speaks to us of salvation)

The fortress of our faith is here;

The shield of our defence. (We can have faith that God is our strength & shield)

Then be not like the hog that hath

A pearl at his desire, (Don’t forsake the precious gift of God)

And takes more pleasure in the trough

And wallowing in the mire. (Don’t love the world more than Life in Christ)

Read not this book in any case

But with a single eye (Read the Word of God fervently)

Read not, but first desire GOD's grace,

To understand thereby. (Yearn for the Lord’s understanding)

Pray still in faith with this respect

To fructify therein; (Ask God to let His Word bear fruit in you)

That knowledge may bring this effect,

To mortify thy sin. (So that you know His Truth set you free of sin)

Then happy thou in all thy life,

Whatso to thee befalls; (You’ll have supernatural joy in good & bad times)

Yea, doubly happy shalt thou be

When GOD by death thee calls. (You'll rejoice forever when God calls you home)

Here is the spring where waters flow,
To quench our heat of sin;
This poem is filled with Gospel themes. Water in the key word in the above lines;;

The scripture::
John 4: KJV
6 "Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. {7} There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. {8} (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) {9} Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. {10} Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. {11} The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? {12} Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? {13} Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: {14} But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

Here is the tree where truth doth grow
To lead our lives therein;
The Tree of Life:
Revelation 2: KJV
7 "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God."

Revelation 22: KJV
1 "And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. {2} In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. {3} And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: {4} And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads."

Here is the judge that stints43 the strife
When men's devises fail:
This is the judgement seat of Jesus and the promised millennium of justice where Jesus shall rule the world with the saints.. A perfect rule putting to an end the faulty rule of men who's justice is often corrupt and rule often lacks wisdom..

Here is the bread that feeds the life
Which death cannot assail.
John 6: KJV
32 "Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. {33} For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. {34} Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. {35} And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."

And also in the same chapter::

John 6: KJV
51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

Jesus gave His flesh on the cross as a living sacrifice to atone for our sins.. Those who eat his flesh accept His sacrifice and believe in his teachings..

The rest of the poem is riddles with Bible references.. I don't want to make this post too long so i will leave it here and let you do some investigating :)

What aspect of Jesus would be most beneficial or edifying to focus on the most?
