Greetings, family in Christ. This usually is a contraversal topic. Many Spiritual leaders teach us that listening to any othher music apart from the Gospel songs we have grown, listening to, is blaspheme to God. Me, I'm Very artistic. I love to sing, and love music, a lot. But is it really Spiritually wrong to allow songs by Britney Spears, Blink182, and Tupac to be played into your Spiritual soul? Its not a suprise that I may have an issue with the choice of music required to be apart of our family Christian life. I'm confused, and need some insight. All comments and opinions are welcome. Thanks...

if you listen to other songs, if they do not give you sinfull thoughts, then it is o.k. if secular music makes you lust, think impure thoughts, want to party and get drunk or high, then it is not fine.

1Jn 2:15 Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him,
1Jn 2:16 because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 2:17 And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Galatians 5:7-9 [SUP]7 [/SUP]Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? [SUP]8 [/SUP]This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. [SUP]9 [/SUP]A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

A little sin can trip you up, knowing or unknowingly. I would suggest that folks do more research into the subject instead of living by the way they think or are told to think. And I don't mean researching only those people who agree with you.

see, here is the problem with this thinking: let's not listen to music, let's not have a t.v. because there is a chance to watch something dirty, let's not have a computer because there is porn available. how about this: pray and let the Sprit guide you along with the Word. then you will have your own limits and not have to be told what you can and can't do by other people. people is the key word

I listen to country, pop, hip hop, christian rock, anything with a good beat---i dnt like heavy metal or anything with alot of cuss words--i also watch alot of horror movies and things---i think it has to do with your mind and how you use it---as long as these things dnt control u or consume you i dnt think its wrong--ts like money---as long as you dnt "worship" it or allow it to control you to do sinful behavior id say its ok =)

This just happened today. I get a massage every Tuesday, accompanied by some nice, relaxing music. Over the months, my masseuse has tried different selections. I guess last week, another client made her a tape of hymns. Knowing I am Christian (in fact, having attended my home church) she tried it for me in the middle of the massage. I had to ask her to stop, and go back to one of the others CD's.

I could not relax. I could see the organ console in front of me. My fingers kept following the organ keys, my feet were gettting ready to start pedalling, and all I could think about was organ registration, what verse we are on, congregational breathing, etc. It was just a deja vu of ministry work. Now before you think it's a demonic reaction, consider I have ministered music in 8600 services. It's gotten as easy as breathing, although not the kind of breathing one wants to do during a massage. I thought about telling CC folks after, but it never occurred to me there would be an opportunity within hours.

I think it's a personal decision on whether or not listening to secular music is sinful. I personally do not think it is sinful for me. I enjoy Christian music, but a lot of it has become stale, and I find secular music to offer more variety. If you start thinking everything is bad for you, you're gonna end up in a bubble, doing nothing in this life. I don't think God would want that for us, he gave us life to experience it. Yes, we must follow his ways and reach the lost, but I think he wants us to enjoy the experience along the way as well.

I, Honestly, have to say I share those very same interests in horror films and different music genres. Is it wrong, then for listening to even mellow music, such as the Beetles????? Can a man lose his Soul because of that? Will God cast us into damnation for singing a song because it does not state "Jesus" in its lyrics???? This is very frightening- wut is the limit to which a Christian should tread in terms of secular music? Is a motivational song, such as one by R Kelly, "World's Greatest", or by Michael Jackson, "We are the World" non- permissable to listen to, from a Christian perspective???

I think the highlighted should be the focus in your post.

"And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."

so is Secular music acceptable in the Christian Community- yes or no? Cuz this proves to be Very contraversial. Shouldn't we all take one side and agree?

Well i do not like rap or these in kind of music like lil wayne and stuff but god also is not limited to a kind of music. Thats like limiting god to one language. I like other music and besides they have christian rap, christian country, christian rock, christian metal i mean seriously blasphemy!? Man they clearly do not understand blasphemy, no offense to your spiritual leaders but they are misguided

I think no two people have the same struggles with sin. So by that logic, no two people have the same weaknesses. Therefore it wouldn't make sense for everyone to agree on what is best for "everyone", since we can't know each and every persons needs. If "secular music" as you call it causes you to feel weak, and not just because other people stuck fear and guilt in you about it but really deep down within yourself you feel you have weaker faith for listening, then don't listen to it. But don't worry about it just because someone made you feel guilty.

I HIGHLY doubt listening to bands like the beatles will send you to hell, lol. Well, maybe the Amish believe that could happen, but I'm not Amish (obviously :p).

If you are that worried about the details, I think you would be better off asking God himself for the answer, rather than relying on an entire forum to come to a mutual agreement (it's not gonna happen). :)
