Long ago, a group of brothers
prayed earnestly against all odds
and broke bread like true brothers and sisters.
Now, we idolize magazine pastors and Gospel singers
and fill our mouths with noise and glossolalia.

Long ago, the Word of God used to be
the most important thing in a meeeting.
Now, it's relegated to the side
because of the music, announcements, and concerts.

We call ourselves the Church of Christ
and yet we struggle to forgive our borthers and sisters.
We call ourselves Church of Christ
and yet we do not make any effort in seeking the lost.

There used to be correction and discipline
in the ancient church of years past.
Love used to be the final answer to restore
a wayward brother or sister.
Now, white lies are valid to hide the sins
many ministers and leaders do in the dark
because there's no one brave enough
to call the sinner out in love and truth.

We call ourselves the Church of Christ
and yet we flood our congregations
with so many marriage and dating conferences
that prayer and discipleship are no longer important.
We call ourselves the Church of Christ
and yet many turn their backs on God
when they lose a job or can't find a date.

Long ago, the focus was a rugged cross.
Now, our main goal is to be leaders
who are unwilling to serve others in humilty.
