That was great, what's the name of that song?
Its the part of Beethovens 9th symphony i believe and is commonly referred to as Ode to Joy.
Ummmm... actually its the "Hallelujah chorus" from Handel's Messiah. If yo ever ge a chance to hear a full choir sing it I recommend it because it truly is an awesome experience. It is I think Handels most wonderful piece and has a very interesting story behind it...
When ever the Messiah is played and it gets to the Hallelujah Chorus everyone in the audience stands (and sometimes the orchestra too!) It has become a tradition at every performance (in Britain anyway)..
The story is that during a performance on March 23 1742 at which King George II was attending, King George stood up as the Hallelujah chorus began. It is thought that he stood to honour the true King, Jesus Christ (but it is also suspected that because he was partially deaf he may have mistook the opening notes for the ending crescendo lol) and when ever the King or of England Queen rises every one else must rise. It has been a tradition ever since!
Here are the words:
Hallelujah Chorus Handels Messiah
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
The kingdom of this world
Is become the kingdom of our Lord,
And of His Christ, and of His Christ;
And He shall reign for ever and ever,
For ever and ever, forever and ever,
King of kings, and Lord of lords,
King of kings, and Lord of lords,
And Lord of lords,
And He shall reign,
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings, forever and ever,
And Lord of lords,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
