Okay.. So this thread is all about the crazy things you have seen/done in a hotel... Tell me all about them, and I'll tell you about some of my experiences working for a Holiday Inn for 4 1/2 years and soe of the crazy guest requests I have had to deal with....

To start off, I would like to paste a poem i found on the Internet that reminds me of my job... I thought you all might be amused by it... Most of these things I havn't personally had to deal with, but they remind me of them!!!!

I am a Front Desk Clerk..

I have advanced degrees in accounting, public relations, marketing, business, computer sciences, civil engineering and Swahili.

Of course I have the reservation you made six years ago, even though you do not have a confirmation number and think it was under a name that starts with an "S."

It isn't a problem for me to get two connecting, non-smoking, pool side, downstairs outside suites (with two king size beds in each), four rollaways, and yes, I would be happy to install a wet bar in each room and stock them at no charge. Of course it is my fault we don't have a helicopter-landing pad.

I am a front desk clerk - I am expected to speak all languages. It is obvious to me that when you booked your room for Friday, that you really meant Saturday. My company has entrusted me with all our financial information and decisions.

Of course I remember that when you were here four years ago we accidentally charged you for a 72 cent long distance call you hadn't made and will make sure it doesn't happen again.

I understand that MacGillegetty's Widget Manufacturing Corp. is a vast empire that can make or break our hotel. Yes I am lying when I tell you we have no more rooms available. It's not a problem for me to quickly build two more so we can accommodate you and this time I will include a helipad.

I am a front desk clerk - I am quite capable of checking three people in, two people out, taking five reservations, answering twelve telephone calls and unplugging the toilet in 420, all at the same time.

I also know where the best vegetarian, kosher, Mongolian BBQ restaurants are. I also know exactly what to see and do in this city in less than fifteen minutes and at no cost.
I take personal blame for airline delays, traffic jams, rental car flat tires and the national debt.

I should have realized that you meant to make your reservation here and not the "Galaxy Delight Motel" down the street and that you are entitled to the special five dollar discount because you're a member of the Accounting and Bagel Club of North America.

Yes I will be happy to cash your Japanese travelers checque for 10,000 yen into Canadian currency. Even though it is Sunday morning, I am constantly aware of the exchange rate for all the world's currencies, after all, I am a front desk clerk.
We are expected to smile, empathize, sympathize, console, upsell, downsell, (and know the difference), perform, sing, dance and fix the computer (all at the same time).

I am a front desk, I can do all things(and look busy when the boss is nearby).

So that was YOU!!!!!!

LOL! Where did you find that poem AJ? I could totally use one of those on my wall here about my industry! :P

Well, Katie one of the other girls I work with here at the hotel found it originally, and it's been posted on a bulletin board near our time clock for months... So I decided I wanted to post it here in CC, so I googled 'I am a front desk clerk" and it popped up with that... Maybe you can find one similar.

Yeah I just read it to Graeme and we both laughed. He said it was very well written. Yes, I think I will 'google' one myself.

Since when did the word 'google' become a transient verb? *sigh* never mind...

Are you serious?

I can't believe they could stoop so low. It's like it's suddenly becoming the latest fad to just throw grammar out the window. I went to the Neurologists a little while ago, and when I got to the front desk to inform them of my arrival, the receptionist said 'Oh it looks like (insert colleagues name here) has already arrived you. Just take a seat'.

Arrived me? How could she? That's not even possible!

I can arrive, I can be ARRIVING, but I cannot be ARRIVED!

*dies a slow and painful death*

HAHAHA!

Actually not, because the Neurologist Clinic was in QLD. I highly doubt she commutes that distance to work each day. :P

Fair enough then.

8000km/5000miles is a long way to commute every day.

I accept your point...just.

Anyway, I am still upset with Alayna for refusing my reservation.

Yeah, understandable.

I'd be pretty ticked too. Alayna, how could you be so rude?

Lol. Whatever... I only refused it because obviously it was a bogus reservation number.. My system can only make reservations 11 months in advance. Sorry!

I would love to find a vegetarian restaurant within 200 miles of that town. Sounds like there's a lot of blame, the blame game, i have been under that too many times to count. lol. Hope everything is going well on the western slope.

Apparently, this thread doesn't appear to be any fun!!! I figured you all would have stayed in hotels before in your lives and seen funny things.. You don't have to WORK at a hotel to see funny things go on there!!!! C'mon people!

What do you do with all the stuff that people leave in the rooms when they check out?

I once lived near a Best Western and they held an annual "Left Behind" sale.

I checked into a Day's Inn in South Florida and there was a 3 foot alligator in the tub full of water.

The only thing I can think of is that I need to sleep in a warm room, so sometimes I turn the heat on when no one else has used it for a long time. Dust has collected, and the heater therefore sets off the smoke alarm. You should see me scramble as I try to find a way to turn off that smoke alarm in the middle of the night before the fire department comes racing in.

LO!!! Yeah... I have had a few people call me before freaking out because they are afraid that the smoke detectors in their rooms will set off the whole system for the building... Generally they aren't connected that way.
