God said to the serpent: "You are cursed more than all cattle, and every beast of the field".

Does anyone have any thoughts, as the impression is that the cattle were at this time cursed, but scripture states that prior to this everything was very good?

My only possible explanation is that the Lord was saying that even at this time cattle had been identified as a sin offering for the OT system, but it's a little weak. Perhaps some loss in translation?

Its my initial thought that God is speaking more of a hierarchy here than the cattle being cursed. In other words God is saying that satan (serpent) will be placed not only below man, but below the animals as well. This is just a thought and I can't think of any other verses to back this up...

Thanks for that, to me it seems an acceptable explanation, as in the created order:
1st Angels (including satan)
2nd Man Psalm 8:5
3rd Animals & Beasts of the field Psalm 8:7

Now God regards satan below the third rank Ezek 28:17 & Isaiah 14:15,19
