I had my 4 children over for parenting time Saturday night to Sunday night last week. During my marriage, we attended a Nazarene church. I was raised Catholic and always felt a tugging to go back. When the kids are over, we ALWAYS go to Catholic church. My son, who is 5, asked me if we were going to church on Sunday morning. I said yes. He said "can we see the pie head?" A little confused, I asked "pie head? What is that?" He said "It looks like a pie is on Jesus' head" My mind raced to try to answer his question, but what the heck is Jesus doing with a pie on his head?? Then it hit me! He was talking about a halo! I grabbed a calender which has paintings for each month and pointed out the paintings of Jesus and his disciples with a yellowish circle behind their head. I asked him "is this a pie head?" He said "NO!!! A PIE HEAD!!!" I felt a tad disappointed that I had not solved the mystery of the pie head. We agreed that he would show me it the next day at church. Sunday morning came and I got the 4 kids ready, which is no easy task, especially by yourself and off to church we went. As we were walking down the aisle to our pew, the 5 year old exclaimed, (with an excessive amount of volume) There is the pie head!!! (Got a few bemused look from parishioners in their pews, btw) The pie head was the large crucifix behind the altar. Inside the halo behind Jesus' head is 4 red triangles at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock!! Kind of makes it look like a cut up pie!
