People often quote "You have not, because you ask not". I was at a meeting with my wife the other day and the speaker talked on Prayer. He stated that prayer that was effective has three Parts.
1.Worship God (with all you have in you, for your Salvation and all He has done and what He will do.)
2.Pray (Tell God what your needs are, and yes tell Him your wants.)
3. Come out of your prayer time Believing You will receive.

All this will work because when we start Worshiping and Praising God, all the worldly thoughts and needless wants are never part of your Prayers
When we tell God what we are asking, We will come out of worship with the mind and heart of Christ and our Prayers will line up with God's Will. Never doubt God. When you are praying His Will He gives you what you ask. Just Dare To Believe.

14 We can come to God with no doubts. This means that when we ask God for things (and those things agree with what God wants for us), God cares about what we say. 15 He listens to us every time we ask him. So we know that he gives us whatever we ask from him.

"you have not because you ask not" this verse sometimes breaks my heart because i have been unemployed for 3 years now, i live with my parents and i feel i have become a burden to them. i have been praying about a job all this time and i have done everything from praying, fasting, meditating, believing and i feel as if i need to know how to ask because my faith is being tried
 
Cindy, prayer is such a deep subject to understand, don't let it try your faith! What we ask for has to be part of God's kingdom on earth, and being in tune with that, being a part of God's kingdom is part of prayer, as well as asking for a job.

Dennis gives some wonderful insight to prayer, so does our instructions in the Lord's Prayer. We can pray amiss. It helps to break this prayer down, and use it in your plea for a job. Remember, God knows our needs, and when you asked Him once God knows again your need. He doesn't need to be reminded. Your work now is to be part of the kingdom, and you are doing that. Only remember that repeating your needs over and over in your mind isn't what counts. You need that energy for living for God with faith.

There is a wonderful book to read for another look at prayer, as long as you listen to Dennis, too. It is "Prayer Can Change Your Life" by Parker.
 
Cindy I feel your pain, but know this Our timing and God's Timing are not the same. Like RedTent said you have time to work for God right now. Pray that God will help you know how to work for Him while you have all this free time. Remember we are not our own if we have Jesus we are His. Volunteer at your church or at a food pantry help someone in need, when you do that you will realize it is not all about you its about God and Kingdom business!!!
