Dear You,
I know you're an adult, and a mature one at that, and there's also the need to prepare for your future in the particular aspect of marriage, but in all, allow the Spirit of God guide you. There are some books you really shouldn't be reading, and videos/movies as well you really shouldn't be viewing all in the name of wanting to be ready for your marital life. You'd pick up some of these books and end up loosing your salvation before you know what has happened, you might even be left with lust and it's manifestations after reading some of these books. The more reason as a Christian single, you need the leading of the Holy Spirit at every point in time.

There are Christian books/materials on marriage you can read today and be really blessed by, while some so-called Christian books/materials on marriage would do more harm to you than good, the more reason the need to listen to the nudging of the Spirit of God when He begins to trouble you before or after you pick up a particular material to view, listen to, or read...

Remember that you cannot be wiser than or more mature than the Spirit of God, neither can you become so grounded in the things of God that you become too big for the Spirit of God to correct. Guard your heart, ears, and eyes at all times, seek the Spirit's approval before reading any book or viewing/listening to any material.
That 'Bro/Sis A' was able to read a book and was able to benefit from it and move on with his/her life without any issues, does not mean you would do the same and not have issues. Know your weak areas, and while trusting God to intervene in those areas and give you the grace to come out triumphant, do your own part and do not put your hands in already boiling water.

May God help us all... Amen.

Ist Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Your mind is like a casserole. It only has what you put in it.

If you put dog poop in it, that's what you'll get out.

I dont think books are the problem, its more online trash, advertisments, tv and magazines and radio

You can very easily put down a book but it seems like people cant seem to just turn off a computer or their tv, or stop listening to something thats on their radio.. Maybe because its on an electronic device that actively pushes the content into their eyes and ears, while books are tangible objects that require you to GO and pick them up.

The other thing abot books for the most part, they arent trying to sell you something. Magazines and newspapers however are vehicles for advertising and so is tv and social media and commerical radio . Ads pop up and interrupt everything. Do people ask God for approval everytime they are subject to advertising? No its just there in their face and they passively watch or listen to it. It will come on their phones even and some have no way to stop it because theyve subscribed to it.

Regarding books on marriage these sometimes dont apply for single people who are not interested in marriage, and often the christian books on marriage are quite outdated. If you were to read about a REAL marriage, (and. not just a romance) you would read a biography written either jointly by a couple or two separate bios about each spouse, or perhaps from a childs points of view growing up with these parents. Few books are about marriage after it has ended and the widow or widower is looking back on it but there are plenty of books about marriages that have broken up!

Also Few books really detail what goes on in a marriage though because its intimate and private between that couple, unless you are very nosy and want to read their love poems and letters. Or Song of Solomon.

One of solomons many many many wives....

Some christian books about REAL marriages that I have read (not books on dating, or young couples boasting about their romance and or weddings, or christian fantasy romance novels, or pop psychology books giving unhelpful advice)

A grief observed - CS Lewis...about his wife, also written after she died
No Compromise - Melody Green (Keith Greens wife, written after he died)
I walked the Line, life with Johnny by Vivian Cash - she was his first wife, Cash actually left her to hook up with June Carter, but I mention it here because reality is this is what can happen...

Rebel with a cause - by Franklin Graham. The eldest son of Billy and Ruth Graham
Joni and Ken an untold love story by Joni Earackson Tada - I think this one was actually my favourite
