I think some people think forgiveness means we are not allowed to defend ourselves. I do think we are allowed to defend ourselves from those who would in some way take advantage of us.

the concept of Love get twisted sometimes you have to prevent someone from hurting you or someone else because in the long run you are preventing them from receiving punishment from God or the local earthly authorities for what they would have done otherwise. the sentence for attempted murder is not as long as if the person actually succeeded in doing the act.

does that make any sense?

Love doesn't mean you give them whatever they want or ask for, sometimes it means preventing them from doing harm and giving them what they NEED. That is what God does for us. He answers our prayers with what we NEED which is not the same thing always as what we WANT.
