Dear friends, I love all kinds of good music, from Boxcar Willie to the Beatles to Brahms and Beethoven. But I want to ask which of you good people particularly like classical music?
I went to an Erie Philharmonic concert last Saturday night, and they played George Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F. It was cool.

Do you like the following works
Sibelius Symphony No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, No. 6
Brahms, Symphony No. 1, 2, 3, 4
Beethoven Symphony No. 5, 6.7, 9
Tchaikovsky, Symphony No. 1, 5, 6
Dvorak Symphony No. 6, 8,9
Mahler, Symphony No. 1, 2, 4
Mozart Symphony No. 40, 41
Grieg Piano Concerto, Peer Gynt Suites, Symphonic Dances, Norwegian Dances
Rachmaninov Vocalise, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Preludes, Etudes, Piano Concerto No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, Symphony No. 2, No. 3, Symphonic Dances, Vespers
Debussy Claire de Lune, Arabesque, Clouds, Caravans, Sirens
Gershwin Piano Concerto in F, Rhapsody in Blue, Prelude, Porgy and Bess
Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez
Sibelius Finlandia, Karelia Suite, Swan of Tuonela, Valse Triste
any other classical works?
Stravinsky The Rite of Spring, the Firebird Suite
Borodin, Prince Igor, Symphonies
In Central Asia

Take care.

God bless all of you. In Erie PA Scott R. Harrington

Ms. flowerof3: Do you think for instance that classical music, which I enjoy also, is incompatible with Christian hard rock? some Christian hard rock, such as Disciple with its Biblical lyrics in 'Battle Lines', is very good.

Blessings.

I can enjoy classical music, but don't know what any of the pieces are called. I too like a huge variety of music from my all time favorite Barry Manilow to Josh Groban to Reba McEntyre to Tran-Siberian Orchestra. All good stuff. Also love Phantom Of The Opera and a lot of Broadway. In the car I listen to Christian Contemporary most of the time.

I enjoy classical music actually, I dont listen to it much at all but when I do I like to pull apart the different sounds that make up the orchestra, I love the complexity of it, amazing work.

Bach's counterpoint for example is amazingly complex but balanced and radiant.

IMHO:

Yes, I am fond of classical music, particularly Romantic variety.

Having said that, I have broad tastes. I think that many styles of music have a few really great compositions and a majority of hum-drum, as for example what I call "piano teacher recital music." Many kids waste hours and hours of time learning pieces that aren't worth the bother.

Some learners' pieces may sound boring, yes; often the idea is though being able to practice using the various keys and combinations of notes and rests and so forth, which a piece particularly applicable for learners may have.

I struggled 40 years ago with my pieces! but in hindsight I'm very glad I persevered.
