Exo 12 v 7: Then they are to take some of the blood and put in on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.

The passover, the people were told to smear the sides and tops of the door frame with blood from the passover lamb. Think how scary it must have been, imagine if you had been there wondering, watching and waiting to see what happened. Yet the inhabitants who obeyed and put their faith in God were covered by the blood of the lamb.

The law of sin and death was crouching at the door (see first door). But the law of sacrifice, the shedding of blood and the forgiveness of sin was THE PADLOCK which kept the inhabitants safe inside for those who were willing to enter in.

Isaiah 32 v 17 - 18: The fruit of that righteousness will be peace, its effects will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in a peaceful dwelling place in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.

The world can rage outside but inside our hearts and minds are covered by the blood of the lamb if we dwell in that place of security.

Interesting thought, presumably if there had been any guests in the houses that night, they would have also been safe.

There is so much more to say on the passover door, maybe you can add?

The commentary that I am reading on exodus has this to say about the night the blood was put on the doorposts and lintels to save the lives of those who knew the Lord:

"What a sobering dreadful thought. And, my friends, the exact thing happens every single day between the time we got up this morning and the time we retire tonight, hundreds of thousands of people across the face of this earth will perish for all time.....and worse, for all eternity. And the same will happen tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that.....Yet, by joining yourself to the Israel of God you can avoid this. Trust God by trusting Christ, sprinkle His blood on your house...your body...and you wil have life. Don't and eternal death is the certaibn result."

As a symbol of this, as something that is between myself and God, I put up a Mezuzzah on my doorpost, a little box with the words from Deut 6 in it "The Lord our God is One Lord.......". I have heard it is a symbol I am Jewish and I am not to do it, I have heard it is a ritual and I am not to do it, but I feel it is communication between my God and me so the box stays there.

Hi Redtent. You reminded me of a funny stories years ago when I was a child. My aunt who brought me up use to do some cleaning for a Jewish family. Two of the brothers shared a house and one day she decided to clean all the doors, tops of the doors etc. Above every door in the house she found a sticker, I think it was a star shape. Anyway she took them all down to clean up and wondered at first if the brothers were a bit strange putting up stickers above the doors.

Later a friend explained that it was a tradition among jewish people and part of their beliefs.

PS coincidentally I have just posted another door including Deut 6.
Thanks for your comments, if you come across anything else in your study, let me know
