At least 86 killed, 186 injured in bomb blasts at peace rally in Turkish capital

ANKARA, Turkey – Two bomb explosions targeting a peace rally in Turkey's capital Ankara on Saturday killed at least 86 people and injured 186 others, Turkey's Health Ministry said.

The explosions occurred minutes apart near Ankara's main train station as people were gathering for the rally, organized by the country's public sector workers' trade union and other civic society groups. The rally aimed to call for an end to the renewed violence between Kurdish rebels and Turkish security forces.

It was not clear if the attacks, which came weeks before Turkey's Nov. 1 elections, were suicide bombings.
In the last few minutes prior to posting, Turkish officials have said the bombs were, in fact, set off by suicide bombers. The government has called an emergency security meeting, and both President Recep Tayyip and Erdogan Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu cut short campaign appearances and speeches in order to return to the capitol. The question is, was this ISIS, or Kurdish separatists, who are seeking to carve their own homeland out of Turkey, Syria, and Iraq?
