Does the bible forbid us to drink?
Let's look at what scripture says about it.

Galatians 5:20-21 (New King James Version)

Idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, DRUNKENNESS, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Now let's look at the definition of Drunkenness:

-a temporary state resulting from excessive consumption of alcohol

-alcoholism: habitual intoxication; prolonged and excessive intake of alcoholic drinks leading to a breakdown in health and an addiction to alcohol such that abrupt deprivation leads to severe withdrawal symptoms

Drunkenness, aka. alcoholism, is when you let alcohol take over control in your life. And the first time it happens is when you lose control of yourself. That is what drunkenness is in a nut shell.

Therefore, we are not prohibited to enjoy drinking, what we are prohibited from doing is showing a lack
of moderation and letting ourselves be controlled by alcohol and anything else for that matter.

I enjoy beer very much and i don't feel the need to be intoxicated, there is no point and it is rather harmful and most importantly it isn't pleasing to God.
However, some people are recovering alcoholics and it might be very hard for a person to have just one. In that case the obvious thing to do is to refrain from it.

Lastly we must seek to please God in everyway, he is more than worthy :)
 
I used to get big time drunk... sad times now what about the occasional celebratory wine?
 
I really believe you can drink beer everyday of your life without sinning. Sin happens when you seek the feeling of being Drunk to enhance your every activity and moment of your life therefore leading to alcoholism and drunkenness. There are some people for example that do the same thing with coffee.
 
I rather not drink period cos I tend to get into party mode if I do, for now I'll focus on being a better person in Christ and gain better self controll
 
Yeah man, i was a party animal and came to the realization that parties are a gathering of people who are there to get wasted and laid. So the rational and biblical thing to do is to stay away from people like that, so that's what i did, i have them in my prayers and thats about it. If your flesh is weak as i said it is better to refrain from it, but if you are strong in the word of God and you know you won't fall, then enjoying a beer once in a while is not a sin.
