Rising from the earth below
With the breath of life we glow
Scattered pieces brought together as one
Spirit's breath to dust
A life-giving flow
Purpose and function in union finely spun
First Adam from first garden's dust
A life begun

But no longer in the paradise it seems
Light obscured by slithering shadows
Of deceit and sinful schemes
Now darkness grips and harrows
Fractured hopes and silent screams
Giving up the light of day
Wandering and lost along the way
Reaching for horizon's gleams

From organic unity
To dead multiplicity
Particles of our outer being
Dust in death's fray
A sin-drenched soul
Self-estranged from the all-seeing
Crushed under the weight of being
Yet without direction in the dark
Still groping to find a heaven to pray
In the vast abyss only finding dismay
Life and death
Dust fleeing from breath
In dissonant notes our symphonies play

But through the depths of dismay
This dusty, badly broken clay
Sees a light breaking through
The Creator steps into dust anew
In humble form He joins our plight
The Potter’s hands now pierced by night

The perfect vessel shaped with care
In brokenness our burdens bear
This vessel pure for us was shattered
Our fractured being no longer scattered

Our brokenness He took upon
And in resurrection broke a new dawn
From dead multiplicity He draws us near
Into unity of love that casts out all fear
From broken clay to vessels pure
In Christ alone we are secure
