Okie dokie well first off I should give my testimony and how this all began its going to be long so those of you that get bored just skip this one lol...
Well I grew up in a Christian household, I always heard about The Trinity, but never really payed attention to it, I started listening to it until I began private school at my church, it was basically homeschool (abekaacademy) with babysitters.. In bible class I was learning about the crucifixion of Christ and how we're all sinners and only saved by his grace and accepting him into our hearts. After hearing that I remember feeling so guilty and worthless and not worthy to be saved I was only 9yrs old. The next day we had chapel service I can't really recall everything my principal was saying but I remember him saying who wants to accept Christ and I remember just getting up and crying my eyes out saying I wanted too but didn't know if he would accept me, I remember repeating what I was told but also asking God to forgive me and to accept me and enter my heart.. I remember feeling weightless and with so much peace I was so happy finally feeling loved by someone. After this years passed and I always prayed and fasted but I always had questions about the sermons I was taught but was always told never to question my leader because God revealed him everything he knows. I was homeschooled for 7-12 still in the same program (abeka) but I always seemed to lean on what was taught in bible class rather then in my church. This made it very difficult and I wasn't allowed to hangout or talk to people outside my church let alone chat online with people I never knew. So on December 9, 2012 I was told by my pastor to fast an extreme way no food of course but also no water for 3 days to prepare myself to finally be baptized with the Holy Spirit. I remember asking the pastor that didn't I already have the Holy Spirit in me since I became a believer and he just didn't know what to answer me at all, he said that I was already baptized in water and next was fire so I did as I was told and didn't eat nor drink but after the 2nd day beginning the 3rd day I felt so sick like I was about to faint I wanted water so bad but I wanted to be baptized by the Holy Spirit even more I remember just walking into my bedroom and just seeing everything go black and my mother screaming and just throwing water on me I woke up and remember being so upset with her because she did this I was scared God would see my disobedience and not baptize me.... Sunday came and I remember the pastor asking everyone to walk to the pulpit and just pray I did I remember just begging God to baptize me with his fire now the experience I had I will never forget I remember basically going deaf and not hearing anyone around me I remember feeling chills all over my skin and my body felt like I was on fire from head to toe and I was asking God if that was him, next I remember somebody placing their hand on the back of my head now when this happened I was scared and opened my eyes to see who it was but there was nobody very close to me so I continued to pray and I heard a voice inside my head telling me to repeat what he was saying and that I would be baptized I didn't want too I was scared but then my pastor put his hands on me and told me don't fight with the spirit just say what he is telling you just let go so I did once I opened my mouth to say what it was telling me everything went blank and all I remember is hearing the pastor say that's it you've been baptized by the spirit. After this encounter I tried praying but I felt so faraway from God like he didn't hear me anymore I tried praying in tongues yet I couldn't I didn't know how. so I remember going on to the web and just looking up spiritual tongues and seeing everything about it how it's not biblical tongues from the bible, but that it might even be demonic after reading this I was terrified and wanted to chat with someone about it so I went into a Christian chat room and asked about it I was told that the devil basically entered me and blasphemed against God and that I should just kill myself and go to hell.. This made things even worse I started questioning everything but I couldn't tell my pastor about it because if I would I would be disciplined for breaking the church rules so then I finally found Christian Chat and was amazed by the comments I got by some Christians some said I was blessed but then others told me to read my bible and to study for myself and ask God for wisdom and to open my eyes to see if what I believe is right.. At this point I didn't know what to believe but after reading my bible and seeing that my church was wrong and legalistic it was hard to sit in sermons and not question the pastor about everything, yet I was told that I had the spirit of rebellion in me and to pray to be set free, after a year of this I started talking to my now boyfriend (Forthangel) many of you know him and know what he believes about tongues *babbling* he's the complete opposite of me and this made me ask him everything he basically was my teacher the only one I could ask and he wouldn't tell me to stop questioning everything, when we started dating I knew I would get in trouble eventually because my church won't allow members to date outside the church we've always been told we would be unevenly yoked if we did date outside because well they were Christian but not like my church our church is different we are Gods remnant that only my church new the truth and only we would be able to see Christ while all the other Christians will be out in the courtyard of heaven and I really believed this once so when my pastor eventually found out thru Facebook "which is used by the devil." (According to him) He told me that God revealed to him on Facebook that I was breaking the rules and questioning the church and the Holy Spirit and worse that I had a boyfriend, who believed my church is a cult, he was upset with me for basically breaking all the rules including not telling him if I could date.... So after hearing an earful about my boyfriend being the antichrist and me being with him would make me go to hell and that if I marry him not only he will go but my children and I also because my boyfriend has no way of salvation that he's basically a lost soul for God and he gave me an ultimatum saying its your boyfriend or the church this made me think and I said you're making me choose between God and my BF? He said no "the church or your boyfriend".. so after he told me that I choose my boyfriend I was already attending a new church close to my house but didn't tell him because that was another rule broken.... So after being condemned and basically shunned by everyone I ever called family and friends I didn't sleep nor eat it was really hard, still is really, but once I start to remember what I was taught by my old church, I finally see that it is a cult and I'm glad God helped me get out of there and finally be in a church that preaches the True Gospel and I'm not disciplined for asking questions.. Theirs a lot more to say about my old church but I'll probably make another thread about that theirs just so much I'll probably never finish I cut it short even though this took me 3hrs just to write this....

I'm so glad you are out of that church..

I know you're having a hard time right now and I wish there was more I could do to help you feel better. I do know what it's like to be rejected by virtually everyone, and everything I ever knew being taken from me. It sucks at first. But there are a lot of good people out there to replace them. I still can't get over what the preacher said to you.... How cruel and evil. Not to mention that you could have died going three days without water, or at least got extremely sick. I just don't understand what goes through people's head sometimes.

Your new church is amazing though and I can't wait to go there with you. :)

Anytime a group mixes the Spirit of God with legalism, it gets very confusing ...They teach in effect you must "earn" from God while claiming they have what God only gives "freely" Holiness Pentecostal groups are insane ....

Thank you for the paragraphs, 4th. If you had not done that, I wouldn't have bothered to try and read it.

That was a good post, Steph. And it echoes what I, and some others here, keep harping on. And, that is not to let yourself be trapped by the nonsense that just because someone else believes it, that it has to be the truth...... even if it is some sort of "doctrine" that your "church" has been believing and going by forever.

I didn't even try to read it. Her font is too small and squiggly, and she didn't use paragraphs. Not many will read it. :(

Hoping she won't mind me speaking for her while she isn't here (I have a pretty strong opinion about her former church), but I will sum up what she wrote:

She grew up home schooled by a baptist school program. Through this program at home she was able to hear the Gospel and this is how she was saved. This home school program contradicted everything in the church she grew up in so she always knew something wasn't right. The church she grew up in and just recently got out of was a legalistic cult started by a "prophet" who already failed in a prophecy of Jesus returning in the year 2000. This was of course blamed on the congregation for not being ready. In this church, they told her she had to get the "baptism of the Holy Spirit" and to speak in tongues. I think we can all agree that every born again believer has the indwelling Spirit with or without speaking gibberish.

Keep in mind that she was brought up in this church since birth and knew nothing outside of it other than her homeschooling.

To prepare her for this "baptism", they made her fast from everything for three days, including water. She was sick and passing out near the end of it. I don't think I have to stress how dangerous this is to go without water like that. Three days is enough to cause heart and other organ failure as well as delirium and other maladies. This church is very authoritarian, claiming they are the only true church, even since the Apostles were around, and exercises extreme authority over its members. Everyone else for 2000 years just had it half right until their "prophet" showed up and showed them the truth. They exercise extreme control over the members of the congregation and most everything they do must be okayed by the leadership. Even personal life decisions.

After the three days of her fast were up, she went to church to be "baptized in the Spirit". She wasn't feeling well and she thought someone touched her on the back of the head but no one was around her. Then she heard a voice in her head telling her to repeat after it. At some point she blacked out and woke up with people standing over her and the preacher telling her she spoke in tongues and was baptized by the "spirit".

Just recently, she was kicked out of the church, or rather, given an ultimatum. A sermon a few months back she told me about was about how the internet is somehow the beast and dragon of Revelation. Some convoluted sickening twisting of scripture to force the congregation to stay off the internet. But she has a Facebook. Well, the preacher sent his secret police on the net to look for people and found her page and realized that I am a reformed baptist and not a hyper legalistic pentecostal like they are. They saw my page since me and her are together and it's pretty obvious on our pages so I guess they looked at my page and saw the things I believe.

So she got called into the office by the preacher a few sundays ago and was told I am evil, the antichrist, and all kinds of stuff. He also told her that if she ended up marrying me, since I am not in their demonic cult of a church, that me, her, and her children will all go to hell for it. He said some other things too. He basically said if she doesn't leave me, she isn't welcome in the church. Can you feel the love? So she left the church. Her friends and family are shunning her for this since they are all a part of this cult group. She has lost everyone she has ever known.

But she has found a really good new church where the preacher encourages her to question him and look to things for herself rather than being subdued and not allowed to question anything like the church she was in. The church she was in would not allow for questioning the leadership at all. Whoever did would be accused of being rebellious for simply having a question or treated as if they were possessed or something. So her new church is way better and the preacher is a really great guy who preaches great sermons.

She is having a really tough time right now since the cult group was all she had ever known and everyone she has ever known belongs to it. Her family is treating her not so good and her friends from the group shunned her. She has told me a lot of disturbing things about the church she was in and I'm so glad she got out and found a good church, although I know she is having a really hard time right now. She could really use some prayers from everyone..

I think I left out a few details, but when she gets back on, maybe she can add those if she wants.

hopefully this is a lot bigger and not so squiggly for you guys to read it.. I'm very sorry about choosing this font and size I wasn't really putting any effort into it while I was typing this on my phone, it really was more of me just taking out all the emotions I was feeling at the moment (-_-)... didn't think anyone would care to read it or to even comment something back to me, but thank you for the replies and thank you to all the readers and non-readers may God bless you all.
I might ask a mod to remove this thread since it was poorly written and is unreadable...

Don't worry steph, it's not unreadable (but using paragraphs makes it much easier for us to read) :)

I am glad you got out of that church, and I hope you are starting to get a real relationship with God free of the chains.

Steph,

Whenever a good author writes, they do it exactly as you did. You write what you feel, as you feel it, in a gushing stream of ... whatever comes out. THEN the work begins.

A post as good as that first one you wrote deserves at least three rewrites, taking into consideration, with each revision, a variety of things you learn, the more you produce pieces you really want people to read. So, you were right on track. You simply needed to grease the rails and stoke the boiler fire a little more.

Well I grew up in a Christian household

Thanks for this testimony. It is always hard to understand all the complexity in these groups or any group.

My life has been about being in the world but not of it. I try and hold to the idea if Christ means anything, though we are surrounded by sinners love in Christ should make our lives more real and help us to be lights in the darkness.

So much in the group you were in was probably good, with caring loving attitudes towards each other. The problem is it relies on everyone getting it right from the leadership down, which is never going to happen. The longer the group stays tight nit like this, the more distortions that appear and get hidden the more dangerous it all becomes.

This is how Jim Jones ended up killing everyone, because he could not keep a lid on his insanity and reality finally breaking in on the group he controlled.

What is always heart breaking is knowing people you know deeply are tied in, and hold the group higher than some simple realities and relationships that are not wrong or worthy of condemning but appreciating.

But unfortunately everyone has to make a choice, and there comes a time to walk away.

Some on this website are very bitter about their past, and rather seeing the good and forgiving the bad it distorts them through their lives going forward. I hope that you find the grace and love to see the good and forgive the hurt and grow beyond these boundaries into Christs love which is so unbounded.

Thanks again for sharing, it is good to hear you have found some real balance and still walk with Jesus.

I am glad you found your way out. Thanks for sharing. Will keep you in my prayers.
