1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether human or animal.” We are coworkers with God. His rescuing us from Egypt was an investment in the kingdom of heavens on earth, the New Jerusalem, the city on the hill. We consecrate, set apart to Him, the firstborn. This is like giving Him the top tenth of all we produce. This is a covenant, this is the price you pay to be the people of God who delivers with an outstretched hand. 3 Then Moses said to the people, “Commemorate this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because the Lord brought you out of it with a mighty hand. By doing this it guarantees that our worship of the Lord becomes our primary use of our free time. Not only so but this worship will be feasts and festivals as we all come together in great big “barbecues” to worship the Lord and fellowship with one another. Eat nothing containing yeast. This is a very big point that I think few understand. Anyone can mix flour and water together and cook it. That is unleavened bread. But, to make leavened bread requires much more skill. Any church can put on a church play, but to make a blockbuster movie like the Lion King requires a great deal of skill. When you allow Hollywood to tell you the stories you also allow them to hide leaven inside of the movie. The most skilled “storytellers” know how to get you to think what they want you to think while also thinking this was your idea. The Lord said “beware the leaven of the scribes and Pharisees”. By prohibiting the consumption of leaven He is prohibiting the most skilled storytellers from using propaganda to manipulate the people. Instead in our worship we want every person to share their story. They may not be the most skillful storytellers, it may taste like unleavened bread, but it is healthy for both those that hear and those that share.
