Facebook CEO,Mark Zuckerberg, Turns 28
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s chief executive
turned 28 on Monday, setting in motion the
social network’s biggest week ever.
As of April 2012, Facebook has more than
900 million active users.
Zuckerberg was named four times in Time
100 respectively in 2009 as one of the 100
influential people of the world, in 2010 as
Time magazine’s Person of the Year, in 2011
as one of the 100 influential people of the
world and in 2012 in “The All-Time TIME 100
of All Time” by Joel Stein in Time. As of 2012,
his personal wealth is estimated to be $17.5
billion, making him one of the world’s
youngest billionaires.
He is one of the world’s richest men and
according to him “I started Facebook in my
messy Harvard dorm room in 2004, to help
Harvard students and later other college
students connect with one another online.”
The company is expected to start selling
stock to the public for the first time and
begin trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market on
Friday. The IPO could value Facebook at
nearly $100 billion, making it worth more
than such iconic companies as Disney, Ford
and Kraft Foods.
Zuckerberg was born in 1984 in White Plains,
New York to Karen, a psychiatrist, and
Edward Zuckerberg, a dentist. He and his
three sisters, Randi, Donna, and Arielle, were
brought up in Dobbs Ferry, New York.
Zuckerberg was raised Jewish and had his
bar mitzvah when he turned 13; he has since
described himself as an atheist. Happy
Birthday Mark!
