One of the principles of Christianity is that we are to have faith in the Lord (we are to trust him):

Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?" Matt 14:31 RSV

Why is it so many people seem to run around believing terrible things are going to happen to them?

Yes, our faith gives us many salvations (deliverances) here in this world, but our faith is not the cause of our eternal salvation. That would be Christ's faith Gal 2:16.

Scripture that we label Old Testament shows us the principles of our Heavenly Father, just as the New Testament does.

The kings of Judah and Israel who reigned after Solomon were often looking to manmade ideas and Gods for answers to their problems rather than to the one true God. When they did they brought disaster on themselves.

The example of the kings of that period would tell us that we need to have faith in God rather than answers men come up with apart from God for not only our salvation, but for our earthly wellbeing.

For those who may not know, when we say(אמן )AMEN, at the end of our prayer, many think it means ' so be it' or 'make it so' It is a word that iriginates from Aramaic, which means "to be sealed in trust, truth & faith"

Amen is the root word for faith (אמון ) {this is the masculine form} this is pronouned 'ah-moon' the femine form which is the more common in scripture is 'ah-moon-ah. Faith is a action word, it means to support what it is that you believe in. It's an ABSOLUTE, there's no second guessing. You know.

When we take certain words back to the hebrew, it gives us such a bigger and more profound understanding of YHVH's Word, that only enriches our lives and makes our walk with Him so much stronger.

So if you look at the verse from the OP, it says "Oh man of little faith, why did you doubt?" would be Oh man of little action/support, This is why we get the verse "faith without works is dead" We can say we have faith all day, but unless we put in into action or support, for our Messiah, then we are essentially just talk. Shalom

Avinu, it is always a delight to hear words that help us know the ways of our Heavenly Father better! Thank you.

As I study Hebrew I find all their words are action words, they looked to the function. They didn't understand our type of thinking, called Greek thinking. So another way of saying from the hebrew understanding would be that faith (eminah from the root word) is to act with firmness toward God's truth. Truth is hebrew emet, or that which is set firmly in place.

Amen Red, that's exactly it. Hebrew is a action verb language, it's a "let's not talk about it, but do something with it" kind of language. Shalom
