The feast of tabernacles starts on October 15 and the last day is October 21.Zechariah 14:16-19 shows that this festival will be done in the new Millennium. Do you think it is ok to use a tent and do it in your yard?

Zechariah 14:16-19
16 Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, and to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. 17 If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, they will have no rain. 18 If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The LORD will bring on them the plague he inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.

Leviticus 23:33-43
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the LORD. On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it. For seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. It is a sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it. These are the feasts of the LORD which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering and a grain offering, a sacrifice and drink offerings, everything on its day-- besides the Sabbaths of the LORD, besides your gifts, besides all your vows, and besides all your freewill offerings which you give to the LORD. 'Also on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep the feast of the LORD for seven days; on the first day there shall be a sabbath-rest, and on the eighth day a sabbath-rest. And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of beautiful trees, branches of palm trees, the boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days. You shall keep it as a feast to the LORD for seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations. You shall celebrate it in the seventh month. You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths, that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God'

I think it is a good start to use a tent and pitching it in your yard.

As with most any commemoration, practice or rite, the deeper meaning is always most
important. By the way, my understanding is that the date changes in this feast as in
many others, as it is tied to the lunar calendar - a discussion for another thread perhaps.

Sukkot/Tabernacles 2011:
Jewish Year 5773: sunset September 30, 2012 - nightfall October 7, 2012

The intent is to remind us of a wandering in the desert, homeless and with no country. It
also helps remind us today of our fortunate status in having available food and water, a
roof over our heads, and a place to sleep - (Jesus saying -- the foxes have their dens, and
the birds have their nests, but the son of man has no place to lay his head...).

It is to remind us to not take these things for granted, and to work for justice and truth in
society to after this commemoration in order to maintain order and opportunity in
society by faithful observance of righteous precepts.

It is a good time for personal reading, prayer, meditation, praise and worship, singing etc.
It is also an important time for societal reflection, on the state of the world around us,
and our role in shaping the kingdom of heaven.
There is a communal or social aspect to
the commemoration as well, so the next step will be to set up a 'tent-city'. You are on
your way! You can do more research and interact with others as you go along.

Revelation 21:3
(3) And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
