O
Fences
In the space of just one minute
It seems they can't see eye to eye
With all the heartache that's within it
Fanning flames they won't deny
Folded arms once sought embraces
Wounded eyes now stare off blindly
Worlds of hurt drawn on their faces
Thin lined lips that once smiled kindly
And neither one of them will bend
Each thinks that they have tried
Shouting hasty things that tear and rend
And launching words with misplaced pride
Now the castle starts to crumble
That they've both built, side by side
On Love's path they slip and stumble
Feeling torn and bruised inside
Soon all that's left's an empty place
Where once there was a friend
A lonely, barren, windswept space
With broken fences that won't mend
In the space of just one minute
It seems they can't see eye to eye
With all the heartache that's within it
Fanning flames they won't deny
Folded arms once sought embraces
Wounded eyes now stare off blindly
Worlds of hurt drawn on their faces
Thin lined lips that once smiled kindly
And neither one of them will bend
Each thinks that they have tried
Shouting hasty things that tear and rend
And launching words with misplaced pride
Now the castle starts to crumble
That they've both built, side by side
On Love's path they slip and stumble
Feeling torn and bruised inside
Soon all that's left's an empty place
Where once there was a friend
A lonely, barren, windswept space
With broken fences that won't mend
