Is anyone else having trouble finding a job for the summer?

I've put in so many apps, even had a couple interviews and ... nothing.

The last interview I had, the manager told me basically that you have to fit in to work there and that a lot of their customers are gay men and girls!!! And she said you have to be able to relate to them in a tolerant way :eek:

Obviously I'm not a good fit there ... and I wasn't a good fit at a Christian bookstore either ... ughhhhh!
 
Well, I do think we should relate to gays in a tolerant way, for starters. Everyone knows that they themselves are a sinner, and don't need to be told. I don't know what gave your prospective boss the idea that you wouldn't be tolerant, but if you did, remember Jesus ate dinner with sinners.

I don't know why she'd say you can't relate to girls, you are one after all. I'm sure you'll be led to the right place, in the Lord's timing.
 
Well, depends on what you mean by tolerant. I'm not going to like run around helping someone who is a man but acts like a girl and help them find super feminine clothes to "celebrate" their "orientation." Of course I didn't TELL her that ... and she didn't say I couldn't relate to girls. I think she mostly just thought I wouldn't fit in because I wasn't dressed like her or the rest of the employees and I don't seem cool enough I guess.
 
Well, not really a surprise you're having trouble finding work. We're still having major problems with joblessness, people with college educations and years of experience in careers trying to get jobs at Walmart because they lost their job and can't find one. So they need to make ends meet. Most retail, restaurant, grocery stores and similar types of places are slammed with applications right now. And actually, its better now than it was a few years ago. I live in a fairly small area, and when i was job hunting a couple years ago i went to a store that advertised one cashier position. In the 30 minutes i was there to apply i saw at least 50 other people applying. And they had a total of 4 hours that they took applications. Just have to keep pushing.
 
I have just started my job search, and living in a small town isn't helpful at all. I feel your pain!
 
I feel your pain. Kindof. Me and jobs have a love/hate relationship. With my bipolar and physical health issues one day i can feel pretty good like today and the next i can be in horrible pain and just wanna rest. I was going to college full time but stopped because my bipolar meds quit working with playing musical meds and some other stresses in life i just need to step back and get things back in control. So now i'm finally getting to the point where i'm ready to start looking for a job but again any of the jobs i would one enjoy and two be good at, cause me the most pain. I work on cars a lot and have background in construction and a few other things. So sadly it's hard to find a job in those fields to begin with and even harder when your health is so up and down. Thankfully a friend who farms approached me with an offer to help me get my class A CDL and i'm hoping to get it before tomato harvest season so i can get on hauling for him or another farmer. All i can say is just keep trying and if you know people drop bugs in the ear that you are looking for work. That's how i have gotten my odd jobs. Just like my neighbor i was talking to him and he wanted brakes on his car done, told him for $50 i would do them and he agreed. So just keep looking and if you have background in multiple things use that to your advantage. For me i have done so many different things i'm kind of a jack of all trades. I just hope though this CDL thing works out. I would love to be making a steady paycheck, doing something i love, and helping my friend out.
 
my own little saying that tends to help me is 'God will open the right doors are the right times, but we have to be activly trying the doors to see if He's unlocked any.'
so just do your part & have faith, cuz God will do His!
 
In my opinion, I don't think jobs are that scarce. A person may have to settle for less than what they think they deserve, such as place of employment and compensation, but jobs are out there. I know that many companies only hire through temp agencies nowadays. That is how I found work, they will evaluate you, ask you what kind of positions you are most interested in and try to find a suitable job for you. There is a lot more detail to how that works, but I would look in a phone book or online for local temp agencies if you are having trouble finding a job on your own.
 
Jobs are pretty hard to get it seems. I recently tried to get a new job, because I more or less loathe my current one. I applied to 6 different places, all entry-level. And not one of them even asked for an interview. Considering I have 3 years work experience and a college degree, the fact that places like Arby's didn't have room to hire me is sad, and it reflects the economic condition of these days.
