I know, as we all should, that the Lord has a solid plan for us. I've thought becoming a community organizing social worker is it for me. All I've ever though about when it comes to careers is helping people, and that's always been the biggest dream. But it's been harder and harder to reach. I had a rough first semester and they took back some of my financial aid, now they're taking all of it, and I simply cannot pay it. I've been thinking about my back up plan, beauty school, but I just don't know if that's really what I'm meant to do. No disrespect to an lovely lady that does so, but is that really something that makes a difference. Why would that be the right choice?
I'm just looking for some opinions, some encouragement. Would beauty school be a bad idea?

Faith makes things possible, not easy...so if it is meant for you than you ll see God's hand at work

I know. And I'm trying to rely on that. But maybe his big plan for me has nothing to do with my career.
Maybe I'm focusing on the wrong area.
I can still find ways to give back and spread God's love.

I have talent with hair and style, etc. People have always suggested beauty school for me. And it would be much easier for me to find a job with my tattoos and sometimes 'different' hair styles. So maybe it would be the best career opportunity for me.

God uses you how He wants to and in every situation. Your #1 career is to be a missionary, then you are your other career. Like my father is a missionary who happens to be a head administrator. It does not matter what career path He leads you into--you will always have the chance to share your faith. What if He calls you to be a hair stylist because the women in that salon really need to hear about Christ?

What's most important is that you claim His promises. Christ has promised that He has plans prepared for you (Jeremiah 29:11-14), so seek them. Go to Him in prayer daily and ask Him to reveal His plans--to make them undoubtedly known. You have His spirit instilled within you, so pray to be guided by that spirit. Nothing you do is effective, it is Christ in you that accomplishes things. It is Christ in you that shares himself to others. Let Him do the work.

I am a firm believer that God places passions on our hearts for a reason, however they don't always work out! For yeaarssss I wanted to be a hairdresser, I had a natural flair and a passion for it but interview after interview and I never got an apprenticeship. I worked in a hair salon, but, never got the opportunity to make it my career. Finally in my mid 20s I gave up looking for hairdressing apprenticeships and said, ok God, what am I to do then if you are not opening doors here then where?

Sometimes standing at a cross road is where God leaves us for a bit to make us yearn for his guidance. I stood there not knowing where to turn or what to do. It took a lot of faith to go 'ok God, I release my yearnings to be a hairdresser and ask for what you want.' It did increase my faith because the Lord never failed me. Yes he took me down some interesting vocational paths....some I would not really want to repeat either!

So, where am I going with this? Well, long story short: trusting God and putting your future in his hands in scary in a lot of ways because we do not have control any longer. I found myself applying for any and every job and saying - ok God, if you want me there open the doors. Years later and my winding career journey has led me to youth work for the past 10 years and now I am just completing my degree in Social Work. Previously I have served God in overseas mission. NEVER thought I would do that! I guess it's just an example of how God can use a willing heart.

I once prayed a very serious prayer - it's actually an old song by Audio Adrenaline = "I wanna be your hands, I wanna be your feet, I'll go where you send me." I meant that with all my being and God has taken me places. From the mundane jobs, to the exhilarating ones!

So do not be discouraged. The door you long to be open may not be closed, it just may not be for now, or there are obstacles in the way stopping it from opening. Jeremiah 29: 11 & 12 says "I know the plans I have for you declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a HOPE and a FUTURE. In those days when you seek me you will find me if you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you."

So clutch on to Jesus and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and open the doors he wants you to move through and close those you shouldn't.

All the best and God bless! :-D

P.S - God may be giving you the whole playground to play on, not just the swings!!

yes,i whent and i hated it.its only 4 thoughs who are passionate about hair.there are three other girls at my church who got there license and dont do hair.the only way you will make it is if your garenteed a job afterwards and you have a very large clientel that will follow you.i worked for like two months after i got my liscens and i was only making like 5.50 an hour.and people dont tip these days either.

It sounds like you enjoy the idea of attending beauty school, you are just not sure if it is meaningful. Most occupations are designed to help out people in some way. You may not be saving anyone's life, but you will still make a difference is someone's life because you can make them feel beautiful.

I totally forgot about this thread...oops. Lol

So, everyone, my financial aid for university fell completely through and I have enrolled in beauty school.
I've actually visited a few times and sat in some classes, and I'm really starting to love the idea.

I think beauty school is for me after all. We'll see how things go. (:

HELLO!!!

I pray the Lord Jesus call you to his divine purpose. I pray he equip you for the purpose and establish in you beauty for ashes and joy for mourning. May he bless you in the labor of your hands to his glory. May everything you put your hands to be blessed. Glorify the Lord in all you do. Look for the help of the Lord Jesus. My friend, once Jesus gets a hold to the core of your heart, there will be nothing more than it. All else will pale in comparison to it. You will find perfect rest. Perfect peace. That peace that makes people wonder how you have it. In the midst of trials, peace. You will walk on water in the storms.

Just hear the words of Jesus and keep him in the forefront. May Jesus bless you and keep you.

He who has begun a good work in you if faithful and just to perform it to the end.
