Real men Love God and realize that they need him .

There's a budding pastor I know. He stands out in parking lots and yells "I'm in love with a man", waits for the attention of everyone, and adds "His name is Jesus."

So...

Its Valentines Day, Romantic day....

And some women think of Jesus Romantically but, not romantically because he's their Lover but, not sexually, just spiritually and yet somehow romantically in a spiritual sense.

I'm still not okay with it. I feel like the way Lover is used in Song of Solomon reinforces that Jesus is not my Lover. SoS is not about Jesus or the Church. Unless Solomon is suppose to be Christ and then He doesn't even keep the girl she escapes to be with her boyfriend.

And aside from some Terrible Hillsong lyrics. I disagree.

Also when Mary washes Jesus feet with her tears, there are no suggestions or implications that she considered herself to be his lover or vice versa.

Well I know this has nothing to do with what everyone else is talking about but I did make some plans with one of my other single friends and we are going to watch Safe Haven this weekend so hopefully it will be good. Happy Valentine's Day to you Jordache!

So... I've come to the Conclusion that the problem is of much larger scope than I thought.

Its more of a Cultural Worship issue that has changed the view of how people see Christ.

"Jesus, Lover of my soul." <found nowhere in scripture.

God is a hen, and we are the chicks. God is a Shepherd, and we are the straying sheep. God is a Bridegroom, and we, his church, are the bride. He is our Rock, our Fortress, and our Champion.

He is the ALMIGHTY. He is the Lord of the DAY and the NIGHT. He is the God of Justice and Mercy. His Great and Terrible Day, every knee will bow and every Tongue confess that He is Lord of ALL.

This is My God, this is my Savior, this is who Ransomed me from Sin and Death. He is God, who showed His love for us, by laying down His life, Like a soldier who jumps on a grenade for His friends. Jesus who Conquered Death by Death and stole the keys to Hell and the Grave. He is the Very Word which brought the Foundation of the Universe into being. I owe Him my life and my allegiance forever.

He is not my boyfriend. I will not sing silly songs with Larry the Worship Leader about how much I want to cuddle with Jesus.

It is so amazing how many different kinds of love are in God.

The Jews say Solomon wrote three books in Scripture. As a young man, he found God in falling in love (Song of Songs). As a middle aged man, he found God in reflections on life (proverbs). As an old man, he found God in knowing the vanity of life (Ecclesiates).

Hmm... I'm comfortable with Jesus being my husband. hahahahaha. I need someone to take care of me! :D

Song of Solomon is about Jesus and the bride, Liam. I wouldn't consider Him my boyfriend. In a completely non-sexual way I do consider him my husband. I'm not against anyone who won't see Jesus as a lover. I know it's weird to some and I can definately empathize with that weirdness... Even how wrong it feels. The image is biblically sound so I embrace it but that doesn't mean there aren't a dozen others that give me the heebeegeebees and I don't understand.
There are two sides here. Some people feel that we get to cozy with Jesus and made him less than he is. Others think we make Jesus too holy and removed and thus limit relationship. Both are true and dangerous. But the answer is not one or the other. God is out closest friend, but He is also holy beyond belief. In fact, even just typing I'm overwhelmed by the complexity of God. I can cuddle with Jesus and he will embrace me back. But I also fall on my face before Him.

I see him as a friend and ultimately Lord (e.g. member of the God head). He tells me that he is much much taller than I and can see far more than I can and to trust Him.

Have you read the Song of Solomon? Lover is constantly used. To us lover has a sexual connotation. I wouldn't call Jesus my lover necessarily when speak to someone on the street, but certainly I can consider him my lover amongst my Christian friends or alone. Being a lover does not have to be sexual. We make it sexual. It's about intimacy not sex, and the older I've gotten the more this makes sense to me. A lover is simply someone who loves... But The Lord loves beyond what we can imagine love being. He is THE lover of our souls. He is the epitome of love. He is love incarnate, the embodiment of true affection, and the ultimate pure expression of such love. So why shouldn't we call him lover?

but wasnt song of solomon about sex?

I agree with Liamson. I've been told I'm odd by other females because I don't consider Jesus to be my husband, lover, etc. I LOVE God, wholeheartedly, but I am not IN LOVE with him. And personally, I see that as okay. I see God as the almighty, righteous, complete, encompassing, and many other adjectives. I've also been told that when I get married I'll finally see Christ as my husband. I see God as being SO MUCH MORE than just a husband, lover, father, or whatever.

The song of Solomon is not About Jesus and the Bride.

Solomon is the Villian. He is the King of Israel, and has his Harems and Concubines. But The shulamite woman knows that Love cannot be bought. She stands her ground from Solomon's sexual advances and manages to escape. She remembers what True love is and she knows she loves the boy from where she is from.

That is the moral of the Story.

I think we as Christians sometimes rely to much on God to drop our lover in our laps. And unless your a Calvinist, who lacks the free will to pick your own mate, God didn't predestine anyone to be yours and yours alone. Just have to look a little and pray that you find someone who will be what you need in your life and help advance your relationship with God. Honestly i believe, whole heartily, other then your personal preferences those are the only standards that matter. =]

I tend to agree with you Liamson,
The kingdom of heaven isn't the land of make believe
I seem to remember Jesus telling us to refer to God as our Father
As in Our "Father" who art in Heaven
Seeing him as anything other than a patriarchal parent would seem peculiar to me as well
We can be complete in Christ and not have the need for a spouse such as Paul
Yet if one longs for a spouse I dont find where we can assign Christ our Lord or God the Father as a replacement, although serving Christ will certainly put one into the correct frame of mind for being a good spouse.
On the other hand I wouldn't find anything incorrect with using the way someone serves Christ as good practice for how they would be with a future spouse.
Since there is no marriage in heaven ........_______
(anyone may feel free to insert what should follow )

I realize this will draw attention..but honestly the whole homo shock aspect of it makes me frown on christian who do that.
Kinda like when people on CC who will tell you homosexuality is a sin, joke about it all the time in the chat.

Doing well... Loving Jesus... Living life... Struggling to be better than I am, love Jesus more than I do, live the life he's called me to, and honor Him in the midst of it all.
