Hebrews 5:14 But stong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

"Even those who by reason of use"
We must use our senses. This takes time. A new Christian hasn't used his senses. Christians of full age have exercised their senses to discern good and evil. It comes from reading the Bible and being used to discerning what is good and what is evil. We should know what is right and what is wrong if we are a full age Christian.

Gods word is living. The scriptures are the words of men, But God's word is life and is within all living things. God's word is in us. If you want to know God and grow closer to God then seek God from in yourself, seek God from where he is, God is in you, and so are all the things of God. God did not make the bible, you will not find God in the bible. The word of God cannot be written in writing, it is written in life, the life in you is made up of living word of God. When speaks to us through life and through feeling.

Is that advice that you would give to an unbeliever?

It's not a very big leap from "God is in us" to "we ARE God" (since God is IN US, why not?)

Far better to send a non-believer or new Christian to seek God in the Bible than to tell them to "Go find God within yourself", which will only lead them in confusing circles at best, and at worst, send them down a path of spiritual destruction.
