To me a major stumbling block for us it seems to me has been, nearly from the beginning the lack of ability to love and worship what we can't see, touch or measure. Gideon used the ear rings plundered from the Midianites and wove them into an Ephod in tribute to the Lord, IMO a trophy. He then placed it in Ophrah and all Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there.

This theme came from before Joseph of Genesis went to Egypt through many generations. Remember the Golden Calf or Baal? It goes on to this day, some worship science, astrology, logic and a torture & execution devise the our savior was hanged on. Why can't we learn? We are supposed to worship God and God only!
