For me the answer to this question should come from the story of the Rabbi and his students.
The students were always trying to come up with a question to stump their wise old teacher, and so they asked him this:
Rabbi if there is a ladder to heaven and one man is near the top of the ladder and one man is near the bottom of the ladder, which man is closer to God? The Rabbi was silent.
The students again asked the question, thinking they had stumped their teacher:
Rabbi if there is a ladder to heaven and one man is near the top of the ladder and one man is near the bottom of the ladder, which man is closer to God? The Rabbi finally turned and said to his students, the question does not have enough information and therefore cannot be answered.
The students complained; what information are you missing? The Rabbi replied,"You did not tell me who was still moving."
It does not matter if you are at the beginning of your journey or near the end. The most important part is that you continue on the way.
