I did not know there was one! One of the best fights I've ever had was a channel cat. I was fishing for bass off the down-stream side of a train trestle. I hooked it and it ran upstream. At one point, I had to be held nearly upside down by my ankles so that my pole didn't break on the girders!
I had 100 yds. of line and it took about 95 of them. I finally turned it around and brought it back down to the bridge. I thought the fight was over. I thought wrong! It went downstream and nearly spooled me again. I had to pressure the spool with my fingers. Either I was going to stop it or it would break my 8 lb. line. It stopped.
I finally brought it to the base of the trestle, where my friend netted it. I couldn't believe that it was only 9 lbs! I'd caught hundreds of carp up to 40 lbs and knew how to fight a fish. This cat was the strongest fish I've ever caught!
Happy Catfish Day! And while we're at it, Shabbat Shalom!
