I cringe as the rock grinds into my knee. Too weak to stand, I crawl on the ground like an animal. My tainted blood trickles onto the barren street. I cry out in anguish as the whip rips the flesh from my back. Words of hate, disgust and fear penetrate my heart like daggers. People line the streets, gazing on like tourists passing through. I pause, and just as I lift myself up from the dusty streets, I come face to face with a young boy. As our eyes meet, he spits in my face. Ashamed, I let my body fall limply back on the cobble-stone street and start inching my way to that distant hill. I make it to the hill. Barely breathing and bleeding uncontrollably.Lying on that tree, I look down at the blood-soaked battle I fought to get here. I look to my Father and cry thanks to him to, knowing I have deserved much worse all my days. I lie patiently for the time to come. The looming figure startles me, yet brings a sense of peace. His fearful presence let's me know the time is near.He leans down to my bloody body, holding something close by his side. Straining to focus my eyes on the object, it becomes clearer as he slams it down to drive the nail further into my skin. He repeats this motion several times, each time sending a sharp pain shooting into my arm and causing my entire body to convulse. Before I realize it, they have lifted the tree towards the heavens. A smirk creeps onto my face as I have found myself in a much better position to raise my hands to God above. I cringe as the tree settles into the soil, grinds splinters into my back, and jostles my aching body. I look down in pity at the lost souls torturing me in their worldly ways.I looked up to my Father in agony and begged Him to forgive them for what they know not. As I lowered my head to rest it on my shoulder, a sharp pain pierced my side and I gasped a sigh of contentment for I knew it was complete. A single tear stroked my cheek and I whispered a prayer of thanks to Him.
In all reality...
I roll over in my bed and wipe my eyes. I feel so blessed God has given me another day to praise Him and adore Him. A single tear cascades down my cheek and I look up to my Father and cry my thanks to Him.
