How do you defeat a fear? I know that in bible says that perfect love drives out fear but how do you do that?

if you are in a moment of your day and suddenly something happens that cause you fear what do you do? you just think "i love God" and the fear is out?

how is the process that you go that makes you defeat that fear?

The blood of Christ protection, it is enough it is all, it is covering that sheathes us from all :)

Also, if you are living your life for God, milady, God sees this and puts His shield of protection around you.

:)

How we face it depends upon the type of fear it is, and perhaps we do it differently.

My greatest fear I would have to say would be something happening to my son. The day he got his license was one of the worst days of my llife. :) But, it has become easier over time because of God's perfect love, because I know some things:

- God loves my son even more than I am capable of
- My son belongs to GOD, not me
- Nothing is going to happen to my son that God doesn't already know about and has made provision for
- No matter what happens, God will ultimately use it for good in my son's life

Regarding other things that are not as scary to me, even facing death, I know that I know that I know I belong to Him. I know that He orders my steps and nothing is going to happen to me that He can't hande. HE is perfect love and HIS perfect love has made provisions for every difficulty we might face and He has PROMISED to be with us through it all. If we trust Him in this, we are victorious.

So, for me, at those moments, my thought is, "God's got this". Unless, of course, we won't let him have it...

I've struggled with fear my whole life, but God has been faithful to help me through it all. Now when i say i've struggled with fear, i mean like dabilitating fear, where you can think of nothing else and do nothing because you are so afraid.

This is how God helped me defeat fear.

Firstly i down right refused to live my life in fear, and i set out to attack this fear problem, and i did.
Every morning i was reading my bible then on my face before the Lord, not pleading for him to take the fear away, but to teach me how to get through the fear. I was constantly fasting, i memorized verses on fear and peace. I got someone i knew and trust to meet with me everyday and pray with me.
Every time i started to get afraid i would say God i surrender this fear to you, and i ask you to help me trust you. Then i would do my best not to think about what it was i was afraid of, because i had surrendered it to God.
An you know what eventually after awhile, you get to the point where you start to get that fear then its like..... So what... Seriously so flippin what, fear can't do anything to me, and fear only has as much power as you give it. So if i dont give into the fear it has no power.

You really have to get to that point where you say God, i trust you with my life, i will trust you no matter what.

In Jullianna's thread about taking your thoughts captive, thats another good thing that you should do. Literally as soon as you start to get that fear take it captive! Dont let it just run rampant around in your head. Take it captive, surrender your fear to the Lord, then pray Father help me to trust you, then just trust him :)

Stand firm, Dont let fear overwhelm you, you and God overwhelm the fear.

How do you defeat a fear?

With this verse: "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." - John 16:33

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Liz, memorize this verse and keep it in your heart. :)

It might seem silly to some people, but as a teen, this southern gospel song was popular and I would sing it to myself when I was afraid :) :

Let not your heart be troubled
Neither let it be, Neither let be afraid
I've overcome the world
And you can too
Cos I'm living in you
You can too.

I see satan standing just like a wall
Trying to look like he's ten feet tall
Whispering words in my ear
Words of defeat and words of fear
But then the words of Jesus ring in my heart
And it starts to sing....

God bless you :) You are an overcomer.

What the bible means by love casts out fear is that when you put God first and have a relationship with Him, you can not have any fear. All you have to do is just draw closer to Him.

"I know that I know," julieannie, you said, reminds me of old gospel song , 'I know whom I have believed.' . After that, the words go 'that He is able.'. Yes, He is able ! :)

Good, Nods. That is God-awesome to hear, taking control of the test in your life with a pro-active response to God ! :)
And, Are you sure you are 'the mechanic?' I think you are 'the fearless' type :D

Jesus was walking on the water and said , 'Peter, come to me."

Peter got out of the boat, onto the water and walked....

What dropped Peter after a few steps? Fear. :(

How then do we not be AFRAID of fear? Faith. :)

How does one then understand their fears are vile by-products of Satan speaking in their ear, ,You are too this,' Satan says, 'You are too that.'

By listening to God , the voice.....

I'm not sure if this 'Voice' video embedded right, maybe my Froyo 2.2 does not let me see my end product. Whatever, as my bud, Calvin says, and, sure, the Lord leads. Here, then, is a link if the vid box is not there :)

And , I picked a version of this song that does not have lyrics powerpointed in there but something much better, the words of God.

Really, really, really, listen to these verses Isaiah 12:2 , Acts 18:9 etc, for the person that put this version together REALLY put a lot of thought, inspired spirited, guidance, into the scripture he chose, that came straight from Him, our Voice that gives us the Truth, to write, to say, to lead, and, to hear, feel, touch even. God is sooo powerful, God is so good, lizzietheone, and, all the rest of you, ladies, this is for you too. Miladies.

. God bless you, all, I pray you find yourself in God's arms, hidden there you will be from all harm. And, that's the truth :)
